Nice outdoor dining area in good weather but service poor and food a bit hit or miss

The food and staff were fantastic. The place was very busy nothing was to much trouble for them.

Pudding is very good. Staff are lovely. Food is overly ambitious. Wouldn’t recommend and wouldn’t return. Did give feedback on site when asked but was met with blanks stares hence review.

We had lunch in the garden, which was a lovely place to be. There were not a lot of menu choices. Some were more winter dishes rather than summer. Moules only had butter and would have expected white wine and garlic. Burgers were a little too charred, making them dry. Service was good.

Overall the food was good but perhaps we had high expectations and was a little disappointed with two of our evening dinner dishes. The mussels (starter) were not very nice understandable that shellfish can sometimes disappoint but these seemed to be over cooked, dry and small. The hotels breakfast was really tasty with lots of choice.

We had a lovely evening at Bartley Lodge to celebrate a special birthday. Despite it being the first week of January and the hotel being very quiet, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The staff were fantastic and went above and beyond for us. The food was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. They even sang happy birthday and brought out a dessert with a candle and a chocolate happy birthday message. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

Had to give 1 star to proceed to write the review. We were looking forward to having our Sunday lunch, table for 1 pm we had reached on time. Asked the receptionist to point me in the direction of the restaurant as we had not been there before, she looked up and said I will be with u in a min and left the desk, no one else was there. She came back 5 min later to tell us that there was no lunch being served and the restaurant was closed. Asked to speak to the manager , he appeared another 5 min later. We made a reservation and paid in advance this morning, but we did not receive any emails or calls from the hotel. I specifically asked if we could bring our dogs, and they said yes. We had booked a table for 8:30 for dinner, but upon our arrival at 5, we were told to wait and have a drink at the bar. By 7:30, we called room service to inquire about our table, only to be told by a very rude staff member that there was no food available because they had given our table away due to a busy time. We initially had a great impression of this charming hotel. We enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea before checking in, which was fresh and of great quality. The room was decent, although the sloped ceilings made it a bit challenging for me as a 6ft tall person to maneuver around the bed. Despite the out-of-order lift, our second-story room was generally fine. The bathroom was outdated with a tricky shower, making it difficult to adjust the temperature and the water pressure was lackluster.
