"We journeyed to Masham to sample the best beer in the world Theakston’s Old Peculier at its source. As the WB is the brewer’s own pub and just yards from the brewery, we were not disappointed. The ales are perfectly kept and deliciously fresh and flavoursome. Meanwhile, the WB surroundings and furnishings etc are vintage though not dowdy (the restaurant part of the pub is more contemporary and light) and there’s a good fire going when it’s cold. Add to all this good service, a few decent bar food staples, a friendly crowd of local regulars, and a characterful pub dog (Theo) and you just might have the ideal English pub."

"I made a great find, all thanks to happycow! I've driven past this place countless times, only 9 miles away from me, and never imagined it was so vegan-friendly. From the outside, it seemed like a spot where retired folks gathered. Even though there wasn't much to choose from during lunchtime, what was available was more than satisfying and we will definitely be coming back. The service was friendly and excellent, aside from the wait for the bread. The food was well-prepared, accompanied by a selection of gin tonics with plenty of ice. The beautiful Georgian building still retains most of its original features, including an open fire. I appreciated the sign outside welcoming muddy boots and dogs, but not racist uncles."

"The only good thing about the restaurant was the location and the grandeur of Swinton Park. Although the food was good but we were incredibly let down by the service, scruffy unknowledgeable staff, and the general couldn 't care less attitude which spoilt a rather special birthday celebration. Our bill was calculated wrongly and although this was put right, we waited 30 minutes to get the bill and were left in the dining room (the only diners in there) for well over 40 minutes after our desserts without being asked if we wanted any teas/coffees. Definitely a case of out of sight out of mind . When we asked how the beef was served the response was it comes with potatoes !! Very very disappointed."

"Service was good, but our table, glassware, tables around us, and carpet were dirty and were a little off-putting. Full breakfast at £9.50 was expensive. Wasn't keen on the sausage or bacon, but the black pudding was the best I've ever had, and the egg was cooked to perfection. Saw pictures on social media inviting people for this fantastic breakfast and unfortunately, it failed to meet expectations. Had better for far less."

"We had a delicious lunch here today. I had the steak and ale pie and Steve had the Sunday roast beef dinner. We both enjoyed a Sunday lunch out more than we have in years. The food itself was just great, well cooked and hot, but what was so unusual and what made the main course for us was something that doesn't happen, anywhere now, all the plates and serving dishes were hot, not barely aired, HOT. Just as they should be. A huge thank you. The beef in the pie was extremely tender and tasted delicious as did the pie crust. Steve's roast beef arrived pink/rare-med just as requested, the mashed potato was better than, but just like, homemade, with lovely cauliflower cheese, cabbage and leek, carrot and broccoli. Very friendly, experienced staff and a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere, what a find! I'm sure we'll return having recently moved to the area. P.S. apologies for the poor pic.
