"Went here with my school group for our regular Thursday night Stammtisch. We got our own private room since there were so many of us, and while that was nice, it tended to echo with our conversations so it got too loud at times. The service was good, tho at the end, we joked about dining and ditching since we had so much trouble getting hold of our waitress to pay. I had their Leberkaese and German potato salad (no mayo, vinegar instead), which I enjoyed, tho I have had better flavored Leberkaese. The prices were comparable to other places we have eaten at, and the food was good. their Rauch beer is less smokey than Schenkerla's and more people tended to like it. We all had different entrees, and I heard only positive remarks on the meals, tho our school teachers take us only to places they like, so that isn't a surprise."

decided to try the famous smoke beer, we were poorly greeted by the hostess who refused to let us eat at the counter, and allowed to do as if she did not hear us.

excellent brewery between main railway station and old town, near the cosy garden. special beer is less strong than smoke beer, but above all just drank just as well.

selection of food not so big, there are only smoke beer or white, no normal bright. the garden is rather karg and inside it doesn't look so beautiful, it has such a smell for old cellar. I have expected more Ver carta

we were in the hot days in the juni in special. found in the shaded beer garden a table. Drinks and food were tastefully flawless. personal friendly and fixed. Bavarian beer garden culture. will definitely come back.

special beer, but certainly not quite normal eating. we ate a rumpsteak, too tough, and pumice. maybe I chose the wrong dish, after all the menu is only in German ... more beautiful place for itself. they do not accept credit cards under 50 euro.

the smoke beer of special is somewhat brighter than the variants of schlenkerla, who does not taste it, for which is a visit at special a good alternative. eating is like most in bamberg. solid and tasty. the terrace is cozy, but also the taverns are beautiful when it is cool outside. Ver carta

This is a working Brewery that does rooms and food so a little different from the normal B & B. Rooms were clean and comfortable. We ate dinner there too in the outside courtyard as noticed it was very popular and the food was very good - as was breakfast the next morning. They had private parking and it was 10 mins walk to the old town centre.

We struggled to find seating in this popular brewery which was not surprising as it was a lovely summers evening. We ended up sharing a table in the outdoor area which wasn't too much of a problem especially as our fellow diners were considerate enough not to smoke while we were eating. The only problem for us was that we do not speak German and were not presented with an English menu (we didn't ask for one for fear of offending) Therefore we could only order the Pork Schnizel which in fact was delicious. We also had our first taste of smoked beer and it was fine, tasted somewhat like English real ale and we enjoyed it. Deserts are not available here and unfortunately by the time we finished t...

"We were a group of English guys staying in Bamberg for a weekend of beer, sightseeing & more beer. Bamberg is, of course, the centre of the universe for fans of beer & brewing culture. One of our group found Cafe Abseits on the internet & it was possibly the best find of the weekend. I contacted the proprietor prior to our arrival to warn him of a group of 14 men in need of a hearty breakfast & some local "where to go" info. When we arrived, tables were reserved for us & we were warmly greeted by the owner who proceeded to tell us about the wonderful beer brewing heritage of Bamberg. We were served up a fantastic breakfast - the emphasis was on hearty portions rather than gourmet presentation, but we were all, without exception, greatly impressed by the quality & size of the meal. In addition to the great breakfast, Cafe Abseits has an impressive beer list, focusing mainly on local produce. We were treated to much inside knowledge from the proprietor during our ordering of beer. A man with an obvious passion for his product ! To cap it off, we were offered a sample beer, on the house, of a special beer brewed by a local independant brewer using hops grown by a local farmer. The owner didn't need to spend so much time with this level of personal attention, but he did & we were all blown away by our visit there. It's tucked away a bit, on the wrong side of the train station for most tourists making their way into town. But that only added to it's charm. Highly recommended to anyone with an interest in beer who is visiting this amazing town for the weekend. I could not fault this place & will remain indebted to the owner for such a warm welcome to Bamberg."
