"Couldn’t fault the service and decor but the food was very poor. Meal 1 Fish chips and mushy peas. The highlight of the meal was the chips. The fish in ‘beer batter’ the batter wasn’t crisp and because the batter was so thick there was a slimy layer of uncooked batter between the outer cocked batter and the fish. Mushy peas, they weren’t mushy more like crushed frozen peas. Both the fish and the peas were over seasoned and way too salty. Meal 2 roast chicken, the chicken had an unpleasant layer of yellow oil which also oozed out of the meat. Meal 3 roast beef the beef was rare and ok for our liking, however the rareness theme was carried over to the veg, the cabbage was raw. I am struggling to understand how three very simple meals can be produced so badly."

"We had the most amazing experience at Hayward’s this weekend. I booked the dinner and accommodation package for my husbands birthday months ago. Since booking, I have had to go on a strict diet for medical reasons. I contacted Hayward’s and they went above and beyond what I had expected by creating a fully bespoke menu for myself, meaning I didn’t miss out on anything and you would never have known the food had been adapted. My husbands food was incredible as well. The service on the night was impeccable, our glasses were never empty and little touches such as the waitress’s ensuring the tables were clean after each course did not go unnoticed. We would highly recommend visiting this family run business and we will be back for definite."

"Lovely atmosphere with lovely accommodating staff who really made you feel at home. Prices are fantastic, food was also great. We tried the croquettes, arancini and caprese salad to start which were all very good. A couple of pizzas for main which were good but could have more flavour (hence the 4* and not 5). Wine also was very good. Will definitely be coming back. Service: Dine in"

"The restaurant is no more than a 5 min walk from the station which makes it easy to get to by public transport or to park the car and walk up. The service is just amazing. The staff are so friendly and happy. More than that they are so so accommodating and make sure everything is done to perfection. The presentation of the food is really really nice which makes you want to eat it and when you tuck in the food is delicious. We had a good selection of starters including chicken liver, chicken wings, calamari, prawns and pulled lamb and it was all so tasty even my fussy 4 and 5 year olds ate it. The portions were bigger than expected so when the mains (sea bass and iskender) turned up we were so full. It was soooo tasty and we had to ask for a box to take it home in. Kids also said ice cream and it was just sooo nice. Would defo recommend and will defo be going again. Thank you for your service today. You made Eid dinner very enjoyable."

"My wife and I went to this restaurant for a light lunch and chose it because of its good sandwich selection. We were greeted warmly and served promptly. We both ordered tuna and mayo sandwiches with salad and shared a portion of chips. It is often disappointing to find that the bread is not fresh and the salad is not appetizing. However, this was not the case here! The bread was thick and fresh, the filling was flavorful and plentiful, the salad was fresh with a tasty dressing, and the chips were delicious. Additionally, I was thrilled to find a pub that offers a variety of high-quality real ales, as someone from an older generation. The food was of excellent quality and value. Congratulations to all the staff at The Victoria Tavern. We will definitely be returning soon. Norman and Vicki."
