"I meant to go To Café Procope on this trip, since it is the oldest restaurant (though under different names) in Paris. It was host to American revolutionary figures like Franklin (who has a whole large room named after him). Jefferson, and Jean-Paul Jones. Likewise, it hosted Enlightenment figures such as Condorçet, d'Holbach, Rousseau, Diderot and more. During the French Revolution it served as one of the meeting places of the revolutionary societies, where Danton, Marat, Robespierre, Desmoulins and others gathered. Right across the street is the room where Marat set up his famous newspaper. Danton's statue is in the square outside of the restaurant. Napoleon also dined there, and his hat is on display. Upstairs you can see more of the history of the place, even in the bathrooms, which are marked with the revolutionary Citoyens et Citoyennes. It was for this reason that I gave the restaurant 5 stars, not for the food or the service. The food is good, especially the appetizer of avocados with langoustines and crab. The sole meunière was good, but not the best I have ever had.I did have a complaint about the service. While the maitre d' was wonderful (and ended up doing most of the work for me and most of the people around me), my waiter was one of the worst. He acted like he could care less that I was there, never asked how any of the food was, and didn't even pour from the half-bottle of wine (I had to do it myself except for once when the maitre d' did so). My five stars for this restaurant do not include my waiter, who did not even deserve 1 star."

Fica numa ruela lindinha, a comida é deliciosa e o atendimento ótimo! Fomos muito bem atendidos pela gentil Juliette!

the service was okay. the food was okay. the prices were okay. the charm of the restaurant itself was the draw for us. And for that reason I'm glad we went, wouldn't go back again. The French onion soup was watery and tasteless, darn!

This is an excellent restaurant that rises up to its history and reputation as oldest running restaurant in Paris. From the moment you enter this restaurant, you feel you went back in time. Decoration is beau-tiful. Stuff is professional and friendly. Food is delicious. Highly recommended.

I came here for drinks and cheese before a dinner reservation in the area. They made me a really good cheese plate with a little salad on it and some bread. I tried a champagne I had never heard of which was very good. The service was lacking. My waitress never came to check on me after she dropped off my one drink and cheese. I would have happily stayed for another drink or two and maybe even ordered more food if she ever came back to my table. I sat by the window and it was a great spot for people watching on the street. I had to go to the register to pay because she never brought my bill.
