"We visited as a group of 12, booked in April and pre orders given to restaurant several days before visit. Service was extremely slow with no apology given. Hot starters served on hot plates on bed of rocket which meant the rocket was completely wilted and inedible. Half of main courses delivered approx 20 minutes before remainder came out. One portion of seabass was so hard it couldn't be cut and was sent back no replacement as they had run out of seabass. Mushroom Risotto was dry, bland and all stuck together plus mushrooms were bordering on slimy. Chicken curry was bland and pre cooked shredded chicken only edible part of dish was poppadom. One burger was dropped as it left kitchen and replacement, although offered to be only a few minutes away, took nearly 30 minutes and bun was rock hard. Roast potatoes on one dish had absolutely no colour to them and looked more like boiled. Two of us didn't even bother to stay for desserts and refused to pay for main courses. We never really received any apology for the bad service and meals. We were told they had staffing issues, but customers arriving after us ate and left before our main courses even arrived. Sorry, but I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone."

"We were recommended this pub by others and have been meaning to go for a while. On arrival the I feel the entrance needed a tidy up as first impressions weren’t that good. Inside however it was quaint and appealing. The arms of the chairs...all kept coming off when you tried to pull your chairs up to the table so definitely needs addressing. When I went to the toilet i felt it was a Shame too as it felt scruffy and the fire door inside the toilet was very dirty and needed a good paint as it made it feel generally untidy and unkempt. It’s a shame as it’s quite an attractive pub inside with the fairy lights on the ceiling. Food was ok but nothing special. The food comes out on slate plates, not on proper plates and chips etc in little baskets. I found mine very difficult to eat trying to lean over things to get to food. I would usually tip it out onto the plate but couldn’t as there was nothing to stop it going on the floor. Looked nice to serve but not practical especially for the kids. When we got there we were told they would do the kids chicken or fish Goujons or make kids portions from things on the menu. My rating is about the cost in general and imparticular the childrens food. I was not told before any costs as there was no official childrens menu. When the bill came I got charged £9.50 for each childrens main course for a 5 8 year old !! EXTORTIONATE, had I been told this before ordering I would not have stayed and gone elsewhere. So for one adult main course and two children’s meals and two children’s ice-creams a glass of Prosecco and some Coca colas it came to £60 !!!! I get two three course meals in most places we go with childrens meal deals for just over half the cost of one of their children’s meals. For a country pub, out the way I would think they need to get people back, unless business is that good they don’t need more customers. I would definately not be going back it’s far too expensive for standard pub food and there are some really nice pubs round here a lot more reasonable prices. If you are a family you need a mortgage to take your kids to eat there !!! Very very disappointing"

"After having tasted their beautiful home made chicken and ham pie. I cant wait to return and try more from the menu. The pie was amazing. It had such a buttery taste to the pastry something i had never tasted before and cant wait to try again. Not only was the food fantastic but the staff were friendly, welcoming and very attentive. They made me and my guest feel very at home. Thank you. I will be returning and recommending to others."

"I have been here several times over the last two years most recently today. Every time the food is outstanding! Well presented, flavorful and hot food is hot! Staff are always friendly and personable. Today was a socially distanced lunch that was up to our expectations again. I had the steak and ale pie, served with fresh steamed seasonal veg and chips. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for good food in a wonderful english village pub. Beautiful garden for the summer and covid! I looked at the other meals for guests and they all looked wonderful and mutterings from them showed they were equally well enjoyed. I almost hate to rate this place as its a hidden gem and I want to be selfish!"
