"we went to the barn by accepting that the owner was a "personage", but we expected to get good quality food. What shock we got. food could be very nicely described as a basic home kitchen and the owner seemed much more concerned about his performance of "look at me" than providing any type of service to his customers. When we went into the restaurant and asked for a table for two, we were told loudly and with the arms renounced, sit there. not "how would you like to sit here" or "would this table go well?" "Sit here" and he walks away. no menu provided - there is no menu, just a table at the bottom of the stairs leading to the restaurant. two choices for entry and two for main dish. no attempt to specify desert options. After 10 minutes, the owner came to the table to take our order. Even if he recognized that we were speaking a little French, he did not try to explain the dishes, nor even to speak slowly. the best we can get was "cannard or ham, and "boeff or cannard" for main dishes. we selected the duck for the entrance and some time later, the owner planted two plates of melon and ham on the table and went away without saying a word. It was actually correct, but it's a hard dish to be mistaken. later came the main dish - well, a boiled beef dish in a gray sauce and a rice dish too cooked. Not a vegetable or a salad to see. Once again dived without a word. Apparently, we were supposed to share the smaller portions. the dish had the taste of what it was - boiled meat with a little flour to make the sauce. Then came the cheese tray - no description, just serve, then it was taken away. desert saw a woman from the kitchen pull out a dishes tray to choose. Paying the bill meant to be held at the counter while the owner ended up putting the glasses in a dishwasher. without washing or drying hands, took the credit card and treated it without ever saying what the total amount was. I had to read the print to see. It was 55 euros for two dishes at 15 euros and a bottle of white wine. We enjoyed many great lunches and dinners during our week in cahors. with this notable exception, the food was very good to excellent and the service uniformly high. The barn is a shame for the region. Why would someone return to this place is a mystery - we will certainly not."
