"With a friendly couple we want a little in the evening of the 16th. Celebrate January. But the 16th is a Monday – not so easy to find a restaurant that opens. We find one – a former railway station restoration at the Hangelar stop of the Brölthaler Railway from Bonn Beuel to Waldbröl, Germany's first narrow track. Today, the former station restoration is a restaurant with Mediterranean flair and operates under the name “The Bell”. Another comment: Some of the pictures are “covered”. The light conditions and shadows were unfavourable, and I didn't want to flash. The ambience Located on the only main road through Hangelar, Colognestraße, a magnificent, two-storey, ocher-coloured building with pale in the roof lap not only visually, but also acoustically because of a bell-play with Westminster hit on a corner of the building. In the parterre of this building, “The Bell” offers plenty of space for guests in five rooms: in the arcade restaurant, in the “Terrace” room, in the conservatory, in the wine bar and in the bar. In summer the courtyard with Koi pond is also used. For us is reserved in the conservatory, a largely glazed room, of course also with glass roof. In the wooden construction of the glass roof partly colored light bulbs, partly beige ball bulbs, are hanging, which immerse the space in gentle light as at sunset. Bright beige basket chairs are around covered tables on which top corners, napkins and tabletops are professionally oriented. Salt and pepper mill are not missing, and a color matching Gerbera flower in a veshes also not. We've been sitting here for the evening. However, we changed from a previously taken table on an outer glass wall of the room to a table in the interior of the room, as the glass walls radiated the cold outside onto the squares on the glass wall. Four stars seem justified to us for the ambience. The service A young lady serves us the evening. A smaller group and another pair of side tables are also served by it. They're the only guests in the conservatory as long as we're here. The young lady is doing a good job. She is friendly and attentive, occasionally lets humor flash and served professionally. She asks at all corridors whether it tastes and whether everything is right. It is attentive when it comes to drinking and cleanse properly used dishes only when all ate. The service of the young lady is worth four stars. Food and Beverage The service is enough for us the menus and gives us time to choose drinks on our request. So first we study the food and drink cards. The menu has a Mediterranean impact on the large part. But also typical German bourgeois dishes such as Wiener Schnitzel from the pork fillet with roast potatoes and fresh salad are offered alongside Mediterranean starters and salads, soups, flame cakes, pasta, meat and fish, vegetarian dishes and desserts. Prices are within the framework of what is common in the Rhine-Westphalian smaller cities in this gastronomy category. The young lady gives us enough time to choose. After all, she writes quite classically on her block as appetizers • four times herds with baconcroissinis at 4,80 EUR and as main foods • two fish plates with spices, oven tomatoes and herbal potatoes at 21,00 EUR each, one for my sweetheart and one for the lady of the beloved couple, • Wiener Schnitzel from the pork fillet with roast potatoes EUR 50 My wife previously asked what fish is being served on the fish plate. Our young lady asks in the kitchen as the fish varieties on the fish plate vary depending on the offer, and finally calls us salmon, zander, Dorade fillets and shrimps. As a first drink we order • twice white house wine, a gray burgundy, 0.2 l for 4.90 € for the two ladies, • a Paulan yeast beer for our friend 0.5 l for € 4. and a • soft Paulaner Helles 0.5 l for € 4. for me as a driver. The drinks come quickly and properly tempered on the table. Shortly afterwards, the young lady brings us the greeting from the kitchen. Red pesto and herbal cream In two bowls we serve a red pesto and a herbal cream, both very tasteful and well seasoned. There is bread. The greeting from the kitchen tastes very good. After greeting from the kitchen we don't wait long for our soups. The soup plates are glowing, already recognizing that our young lady carries them on the table with several layers of serving cloths. And she expressly warns us with a “preview, very hot!” completely right. Accordingly, the soup is also tempered, but not as hot as the plates. The soup unites everything a good beef broth should have. Vegetables, carrots, porridge, celery is beautifully bite-resistant. The soup tastes us fours very good. There's a soup called Speckcroissinis. Speckcroissinis Eight crispy baguette slices are well covered with roasted bacon and onion pieces. In the cold winter weather these power packs do well with the hot soup and also taste hearty and very good. However, they also sat well, which makes themselves felt at the end of the appetizer and after greeting from the kitchen. On hot plates and soup, the service lady serves the main dishes. My wife and friend get the fish plate. Fish plate with spider and oven tomatoes The three fish fillets and two shrimps are accompanied by spinach, which is shaped into a cylinder, and four cherry tomatoes. The fish fillets are juicy roasted and well seasoned. The spinach, cooked together with onion pieces, requires a spice and then tastes good, as well as the gently decorated tomatoes. The herbal potatoes and a sauce with herbal cream sauce are served in two bowls. Herbal Potatoes Herb cream sauce The herbal potatoes are swung in butter and have to be reproached. The herb cream sauce does not convince. The fish fillets, however, have enough juice and spice even without sauce. The young lady serves the wildragout. Wildragout in cranberry sauce with apple red cabbage and marons The ragout is beautifully tender and partly disintegrates on the tongue. The added sauce is of beautiful consistency and underlines the taste of wild meat. Some marons and apple slices with a slightly acidic touch bring a tasteful but suitable variety. The cranberry sauce forms a tasteful contrast. I am inspired by the apple red cabbage, which – also in cylinder form – lies next to the meat. A slightly acidic note from the apples used comes through. I like the red cabbage. A bowl with butter spets is served. The butter parrots are apparently made themselves. They taste good and are cooked to the point. However, I only ate a small portion – the greeting from the kitchen and the soup with the Speckcroissinis! In front of the main dishes, the young lady served our friend's side salad. Our friend did not stunt badly when the young lady served the Wiener Schnitzel from the pork fillet. Wiener Schnitzel vom Schweinfilet Two thin, crispy-panned carving giants lie on the plate. Pommes are served fries. Our friend is very happy with his food – as we all do. And we all have to fight with the crowd, we have underestimated the effect of baconcroissinis, soup and greeting from the kitchen. So no one has any more desire for a dessert. But it should be a “permanent”. Three abundantly gifted Averna 0.04 l to 3,40 € find the way to our table. And as a driver, I look enviously at how the three enjoy the bitter. My wife finally enjoys a hot espresso €2.20 . We are all very satisfied with the kitchen performance. We all tasted good, and we give four stars for food and drinks. Cleanliness The guest room in which we sat is clean. Tables, dishes and cutlery are also immaculate. The toilets, both men and women's toilets, are also well maintained and picobello clean. Four stars for cleanliness! The price / performance ratio We enjoyed tasty dishes and are satisfied and have traveled home more than saturated. The service also did a good job. So what does the price/performance ratio mean to be good? Four stars! The conclusion “The Bell” convinced us and our friends. We were not in the “Glocke” for the first time. However, these visits have been back a few years. The good impression we had at the time was confirmed. “The bell” deserves to be recommended. That's why four stars as a conclusion. We'll be happy to return here."

Since the opening of 1998 I visited the restaurant several times. Quality leaves much to be desired. The ambience is beautiful. Especially if you can dine outside the Koykarpfen pond on a warm day.
