Ferme de la Bache - Carta

Last month I ate here with the whole familyCame upon the restaurant by chance, basically went in on the looks of the patio/garden.

We were driving from Beaune to Auxerre at lunchtime and happened to be attracted by this wayside restaurant. What a find!! The food was excellent and generous (to an extreme, for the pommes frites!), the wine likewise and favourably priced. A very genuine and rural atmosphere, with cheerful and friendly service.

We visited Ferme de la Bache on a very wintry Sunday lunchtime. Greeted with a very warm welcome, had left message on answerphone to book and not convinced table would be reserved for us, it was. It is not easy to find Ferm de la Bache. You must take D970 west out of Beaune toward Bligny, and go 10 km., then look for this little farmhouse restaurant on the left. As the previous reviewer stated, it has fantastic atmosphere and it serves great quantities of French country fare at amazingly low prices. The daily menu of four huge courses was only 20 Euro, and we could not eat it all. The entire restaurant was filled with local French residents. We were the only tourists.

Come with an appetite is right! If you were looking for a restaurant, you'd drive right past this place, but that would be a mistake. Four of us ate at this unique country french restaurant in mid-April and we came away impressed and very full. Here is what our 20 Euro dinners consisted of: a plate of pizza roll like biscuits (better than that sounds), a salad that was entree sized, a large plate of country pate and pickles, the main plate (3 had chicken in cream sauce, 1 had the pork chop) accompanied by potatoes tossed in the fireplace to roast, an enormous cheese tray with 5-6 local cheeses, and dessert of creme brulee or a chocolate brownie cake. A charming little country restaurant recommended by Trip Advisor. The building dates back to Roman times, and we actually drove past the restaurant because the exterior is so unassuming. But inside you find a delightful room with a huge fireplace and welcoming owners.Travelers should note that while the food is very good, the quantities are enormous, and the price is very reasonable. So while this may not be a Michelin star restaurant you find in Beaune, it was a delightful travel experience.So, our dinners included a starter, first course, main course, cheese course, and dessert. This is French country cooking in a rural area near Beaune about 10 kms away. Their opening hours are Friday for dinner, Saturday for lunch and dinner and Sunday for lunch. (I think). Best to make a reservation. The welcome from the female owner was a bit cold and unfriendly when we were shown to our table. We had no plates for the complimentary starter of a bread with cheese roll type of thing and the basic baguette bread. Ordered wine and a pitcher of water and had no glass for the water. La Bache is a very good, family-run restaurant on a farm of the same name. They serve dinner on Fridays, lunch & dinner on Saturdays, and lunch only on Sunday (When we ate there). Stepping into the dining room is like going back in time several hundred years. Old wooden tables and chairs are warmed by the remnants of a fire in which whole potatoes are cooking. The floor is made of huge stones, and the walls are also stonework with ancient beams holding up the ceiling. This is a menu for meat eaters. Ferme de la Bache is a restaurant in an old farmhouse near Beaune that only serves dinner on Friday, lunch and dinner on Saturday, and lunch on Sunday. We had some difficulty finding it but Google maps online came to the rescue. We had not called to make a reservation for Sunday lunch but it was early and we were seated in a delightful room looking out onto the terrace. There were two large rooms, each with a big fireplace, and there were simple paintings of the white horses of the Camargue, and of men on horseback rounding them up.
