Now Gaby’s on Charing Cross Road is what they call an institution. It’s been there since the beginning of time as far as I know and yet somehow, shamefully I’d never been (though the journo is a veteran).

gaby’s deli is a frequent hunt for actors and visitors from theatreland and it is so proud that all walls are covered with photos of the actors, signed posters from plays and cuts time pieces that fill the event place and especially its salted bark sandwich, I decided to make a proper cooked meal instead of going. Lo vi un día caminando por el jardín del convento y dos días, me atrapó en el camino y se detuvo para cenar. Estaba tan frío en Londres, así que me sentí como algo caliente. Este restaurante tiene una especie de ventana exterior y se puede ver la comida desde el exterior. Por eso lo tengo. el lugar no es de extrañar, pero la comida es bastante buena. falafel, humo, sopa de lentejas y, sorprendentemente, un san miguel. No había otra cerveza, y me asusté. el lugar estaba lleno de recortes de periódicos que mencionaban el lugar en cuestión. De hecho, todo era delicioso y de muy buen precio, incluso si era Londres.

I asked myself to london my recent trip to london if there were any good Jewish style delis I could visit. gabbys was the overwhelming resumption. a small place with limited seating was not full when I stopped on Sunday night. I had salt beef on rye with pickles. I have learned that salt beef is what we call American corned beef. the sandwich was tasty, but rather substuffed by American standards. the roggenbrot was closer to the white bread with carraway seeds in it. the heap was ok, but weak. do not expect to see other Jewish menu items in NY style. the rest of the menu is more middle east than deli. if they are in a fix for corned beef while in Britain .read mor...

Gaby's Deli, established in 1965, is a bit of a London institute to actors working in the surrounding neighbourhood. I had been keen to try it for a while and was imagining a sort of Katz's style New York deli but the decor here is more in line with an English greasy spoon. Famous for it's salt beef sandwiches, that's what I ordered, and while it wasn't exactly photogenically presented, it tasted as good as expected. Gaby's is built around a hype as the famous deli which was saved from closure by a collection of celebrities, actors and Westend stars. Sure it has this rather New York deli chic thing going on, but I don't think it lives up to the hype. Outside the food looks amazing. Heaps of brightly coloured, inviting combinations, but my meal didn't blow me away. I can not deny that my pastrami bagel isn't good, but it is just a bagel with meat in it. There isn't anything else going on. It does however come with a side salad, where I get a brief insight into the potential of the deli.
