"My wife and I brought our friends here for a double date night. The restaurant is quaint with lots of charm. The owner was quite friendly, showed us the wine cellar with vintage wines and rock wall which the restaurant is built right into. The wine cellar was very small but it fit in perfectly with the overall ambiance. The owner even provided recommendations for Nahe wine and places to visit while we were in Germany. We had the restaurant to ourselves which was quite nice. The service was quite good and our steak was perfect. We also enjoyed the local Nahe wines which do taste different than from the Mosel region. Feinherbst rose and Spatbugrunder trocken were the highlights. The only downsides were the salads (premade) and inability to split the bill between the couples. We were paying in cash (experienced travels :)) so it was a minimal inconvenience. Overall, a very good restaurant with good service, food, and wine that is worth the cost and a perfect way to end a visit to Idar-Oberstein."

"We were fortunate enough to have shared our first experience with a nice couple with ties to Greece; so they took the liberty to order a wonderful variety of authentic, greek dishes, each more flavorful than the last. The staff were very friendly and attentive....Without having seen the menu, I cannot say for certain, but the Restaurant Poseidon does in no way, resemble so many of the other, ethnic restaurants in Germany, with their pseudo-Germanish cuisine and decor; the Poseidon felt authentic from the core. We will definitely return with friends and family. The place is very big and has a large terrace for the warmer months. Be sure to book a reservation far in advance, as this place is popular."

"The restaurant located at the small Idar-Oberstein Flugplatz was recommended by the owner of a Bed & Breakfast we stayed at this year while traveling through Europe. We ate at this restaurant on this trip and a prior trip in 2006. We were searching for a place that served the local favorite "spiessbraten". Spiessbraten is beef or pork with a special marinade and grilled over a open beechwood fire. The spiessbraten was grilled in front of us and the atmosphere and the food was great. The restaurant is off the beaten path, and all of the customers were locals, with virtually no one speaking english. The owners made us feel welcome, did their best to help us order, and we enjoyed the meals greatly. If we ever return to this area of Germany, we will be sure to stop and enjoy spiessbraten again."

"War zum ersten Mal hier ... und sicher nicht zum letzten Mal Essen war super lecker, Preis Leistung sehr angemessen ... sehr aufmerksamer und freundlicher Service. Ein Punkt Abzug beim Ambiente ... wir waren in einem Raum ohne Fenster, sehr gut ausgeleuchtet, aber doch nicht so ganz meins."

"Ich bin hier schon seit Jahren Stammgast. Toll ist es, wie sich das Restaurant in dieser Zeit entwickelt hat. Das Ambiente ist richtig schön geworden und der Außenbereich lädt in der Sommerzeit zum Verweilen ein. Auf den Ersten Blick sieht auch ein Leihe wie ich, das hier viel Herzblut mit eingeflossen ist. Das Auge isst mit und so…. Die Speisekarte wird ständig erweitert und lässt mich immer wieder etwas Neues finden. Ich wurde bisher noch nie beim „Probieren“ enttäuscht. Eine große Auswahl an Burgerspezialitäten, einfachere Gerichte wie Schnitzelvarianten, tolle türkische Spezialitäten die man nicht im Dönerladen findet, bis hin zum Idar-Obersteiner Spießbraten. Für die tollen Nachspeisen sollte man sich immer einen kleinen Platz freihalten. Meiner Empfehlung ist die Grillplattet für 2 Personen. Das Fleisch zergeht im Mund. Einfach zum „reinlegen“ (dafür ist sie dann doch zu schade) Ich denke bei dieser Auswahl an Gerichten kann wirklich jeder etwas finden auf. Die Herzlichkeit der Inhaber zieht mich immer wieder auf die Lay. Vielleicht trifft man sich bald dort!"
