"Il Capriccio in Frankfort Gate has been out favourite Italian restaurant in Plymouth ever since it opened many years ago and have eaten here dozens of times with family and friends. Run by a lovely family with a delightful informal but wholly authentic feel. We were sad to discover that they would not be reopening after this lockdown but we’re pleased to find that the unit had been transformed into a little Thai restaurant Roy Thai which will see us again over the Bank Holiday Weekend."

Italian home cooking. Very pleasant and polite. Fresh ingredients. But expensive for the small portions. Starters especially were very expensive (e.g. £7).

This restaurant never fails to impress. Better yet it continually improves on each visit. Watching your pasta being made in front of you along with pizza bases etc is something special. And the flavours are..... unbelievable. If you don't enjoy this place you don't enjoy food. Ver carta

Lovely evening. Three generations braving the weather for a first rate three course hearty meal for five at roughly £135 total including the booze. Great atmosphere in this family run authentic cosy Italian restaurant. No complaints gripes or reservations. All we could have hoped for.

We recently had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant for my daughter's birthday, who loves pasta. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience as the food was freshly prepared, including the pasta, and tasted delicious. We highly recommend a visit, or even three, and we will certainly be returning.

This is a small, relaxed, family-run Italian restaurant. The pasta is made fresh for each meal. Every course that we had was remarkable! The starter was great, the main pasta course was perfect, the sauces were wonderful. The sweet was excellent. The service was quick, very friendly and helpful. This was one of the best meals we have ever had in Plymouth. And the location is perfect for a pre-show meal. Il Capriccio is *highly* recommended! Ver carta

After waiting for three years, we finally had the opportunity to enjoy lunch at this restaurant. And it was definitely worth the wait. We were pleasantly served a lovely lunch. This is one of the few restaurants that understands that spaghetti carbonara should not have cream. In addition to their specials board, they also offer preorder specials, which can be found on their website. We definitely won't be waiting another three years to return!

Wow! From start to finish, blown away with the care and authenticity of this restaurant. It was a quaint and cosy size, all laid up nicely. A small family ran the entire show, which made it really humbling and enjoyable to be a part of! We got to watch our food being made in the kitchen with the upmost care and freshness. Pizza dough being span, homemade pasta being rolled out and fresh antipasti being sliced off. The food tasted so delicious and fresh! We will be back next month!

"Visited on a busy Saturday evening. General impression is the restaurant is clean, well presented and evidently well liked for how many people were in the small dining area. A little noisy, particularly in the confined space beside the kitchen, when seated close beside a louder table. As the evening progressed, we felt quite cold not sure if the heating was on? Service from the staff was outstanding, very friendly, polite, attentive, but food was slow to arrive. We were a little perplexed by having the appetiser on the table before our starter/main order had been taken, so having to work around still having the menus. The smoked butter was very strong my partner liked it, it was too much for me. Both fish starters were good, with the mackerel our favourite. The main courses were OK. The lamb was fine, but served with lamb fat root veg meant the whole plate was very similar flavoured, and the green beans/salsa verde felt like an afterthought. The skate wing was nice, and the crispy capers were a new and pleasant experience. The desserts rescued the food for me the creme brulée was outstanding, and the chocolate special was very good, with exception of a slightly chewy meringue. I feel I'm being picky with my criticisms, but fig tree is definitely priced higher than other more standard fare restaurants in Plymouth where we have also had very good food."
