"il paradiso review this little gem of a restaurant is hidden on walmgate in york. I would be booked for date at night on the recommendation of colleagues at work. the first impressions were not great – when you walked in his tiny and packed foot, and I had to ask them to keep our table while I found a cashpoint. the sign on the door announced they don't take cards. a warning if I had booked would have been useful as I had to go out of mine to find a monetary point. when we returned the table we were assigned was full, and we were asked to go outside, on the side of the restaurant and wait for the return flight until another was available. when we were sitting (which was only a few minutes – long enough to get a drink and make our selection from the menu) I was surprised to find plastic seats. let them put all this aside to us, for at the end of the night was nothing of it. the personal, and I have never seen such a high personal relationship, were all friendly and welcoming. the service was incredibly fast without feeling. we chose a mixed meat and cheese plate that came with olives and pickles. the meat was plentiful and the cheese was rich and creamy. this was accompanied by a free bread basket, which was served with an olive olive olive vinegar winery. there was a constant flow of new diners arriving, all pre-booked and certificate to the call this little food has. the decor remembers more of a takeaway pizza shop, with a wall dominated by a big tw with Italian sky sports, and is far from the romantic ambiente I had hoped for. that said it was a very pleasant experience. the special board was a little overwhelming with regard to the choice; there was everything from lobster, longustin, mush and kingspins to stab there; although we were happy to stay with our original choices. the starter had hardly been cleaned by the table when the main course arrived. I went for the mushroom risotto and my partner had chosen the carbonara. both dishes were delicious. the carbonara had a thick and creamy sauce and the risotto melted straight into the mouth. the speed with which the main course had been delivered, let my might believe that it could handle a whole dessert on it itself instead of sharing one as my original intention was. our friendly waitress recommended the homemade tiramisu (which she said made them) and my partner chose the lemon cheese cake. both desserts were light and tasty. the tiramisu became with small niblets of dark chocolate, although it really did not need. it would have been as shameful, without. the lemon cheese cake was refreshing without camouflage, and had a thin sponge base instead of cookies. two drinks, a common starter, two main thing, two desserts and two coffees came around £60.00 and was good value. the staff are all friendly and efficient, without coming into the way and I am pretty sure they are all Italian as well. it is overcrowded and warm in it so dress appropriate, they will not need their pullover that is safe. during the service was fast, it never felt rushed. remember to take cash instead of their card and they are for a culinary tasty bite. that's definitiw somewhere I'm returning."

This the best Italian; well actually Sardinian restaurant in York. All the food is fresh and the staff are great. Excellent value and a superb menu. Remember though it is CASH ONLY: no cards taken.

Haven’t been here for a while but the welcome was as friendly as ever and the food was as mouth wateringly delicious as ever. It was hubby’s birthday and we had a lovely time definitely returning sooner this time! Ver carta

If you want an authentic meal in a relaxed friendly buzzing atmosphere then this is the place to come! Could not fault the food or service. Doesn’t look much from the outside but get yourself inside and you’re pretty close to heaven. Yum!

I have been coming here with my husband family for years, can never owe anything! great atmosphere, amazing eating (best Italian in york) super friendly staff! something for everyone, my opinion after a hidden gem! nothing too much annoyed!

fabulous little jewel. very happy to get a table without booking, but they managed to impress us. this must be one of the best Italian restaurants we have. the food was excellent, price competitive, staff beautiful and great atmosphere. in any case worth a visit. Ver carta

Superb Italian. We had a lovely meal here after dropping in by chance. Having eaten in dozens of Italian restaurants this is one of the best. After the best garlic bread I think I've ever had to start the mains were equally impressive. I would definitely come back here when I'm next in York.

We had a delicious and simple lunch at this restaurant. The spaghetti pomodoro was amazing, as was the fantastic tomato garlic bread and insalata del mare. I appreciated the simplicity of the cooking, which allowed the ingredients to shine. Although the seating wasn't the most comfortable, we were well taken care of. I would highly recommend this place.
