"Over the past 8 years we have regularly made the hour or so journey to the Inn at Whitewell, for either a Cream Tea or lunch. Both have always been of a very high standard, the legendary, oversized and freshly prepared, warm scones, rivalling those offered by the finest Tea Rooms, being a particular incentive. I am glad to say that along with the unchanging beauty of the location and timeless architecture, the service has remained very good. It makes it all the more disappointing that the past two occasions we have ventured out, the scones have been very poor. The first of these 2 trips, we thought there may have been a batch that had gone slightly wrong that day or a new recipe had been tried and failed, without any evidence of quality control. And today we hoped the quality we had enjoyed in the past would have been restored once again. Sadly, this was very much not the case. The scones were exactly the same as the previous visit: dry, crumbly to the extent that it was impossible to butter without large chunks of it breaking off, and the bottom was slightly warm and the top cold. Bought in? Frozen? Certainly not freshly baked on the day, warmed thoroughly in the oven, and worse than that, more like an over-baked, dense sponge cake than a scone. This definitely falls into the realms of a First World problem, I know, but it is disappointing when any respected and reliable institution falters. I don’t know that much notice is taken of any negative reviews on this platform, but I can only hope that some sense of pride might lead to the kitchen once again perfecting this quintessential British staple."

The food here was amazing. The attention to detail of every dish was perfection. The staff was attentive and professional. Will be returning soon.

We did a 1 1/2 hour walk starting and finishing at the Inn and then went for lunch which was very good. The Fish Pie was excellent as was the Seared Salmon from the specials board. Friendly efficient service. Well worth a visit

Came in to the Inn at Whitewell half hour early. They welcomed us and git a table even though they had a 130 booked in. Food absolutely excellent as always. Just been a while since we were here which was three years ago. But as I say food excellent as always. Love this place.

This was a wonderful experience. Lovely location, Stunning views. Friendly and attentive staff. Rooms are comfortable. Can’t recommend it enough. We went on to stay at Fife arms in Braemar which is a shadow of the Whitewell . The only negative experience was a member of staff being somewhat militant regarding to having breakfast outside.

Pleasant welcome and service throughout meal. Good choice on menu with interesting specials. Our two starters were squid and an excellent plum tomato soup. Main of sea bass with lobster bisque rated excellent. Choice of ploughman’s may not have tested chef’s culinary skills BUT the home-cooked ham plus the home-made chutney and pickled vegetables really were memorable.

The family of 5 of us went this Sunday lunch for our sons 30th. We were looked after by Sarah who was perfect and made the occasion for us with her friendly, professional and pleasant attention. The food was perfect. The champagne bubbled and the birthday cake rounded off perfectly. Thanks. (Been going to Whitewell for 60 years still as good as ever. Highly recommended)

Recently with COVID/Brexit etc dining out has been somewhat hit and miss in terms of food and service but throughout this upheaval The Inn at Whitewell has remained the constant star. The food, drink and confident, polite, non intrusive staff are beyond comparison and, above all, the management of Charles personifies the ultimate tight ship. I hope the Bowman family will not object to me comparing the IATW with the experince of dining at The Angel at Hetton when Pascal was in his prime but the Bowmans have it! Just please keep on doing what you do so well the ultimate destination dining experience in the north west by a country mile.

Had weekday 3 courses for lunch. Lovely building. Friendly efficient staff. Food nice but not up to the hype sadly. One of us had the famous fish pie and apart from the very nice cheesy mash top the pie was a big letdown. Some of the fish was very hard almost chewy and the grey bits were still on. There was nothing extra in the sauce (like capers for example) it was perfectly edible but just a basic fish, plain white sauce, cheese mash fish pie expectations were too high! The other lunch (lamb) was also nice enough . Both meals lacked vegetable in the right balance imho . (Fish pie had none at all) I think we could have probably added peas for an extra £5! So yes a nice place for lunch. Not...

"I wasn't at blueberries with my friends since before covid so it was great to kick through the door and see how busy it is, fortunately I had a table for lunch. there is nothing special vegan on the menu, but they try to place their very hardest, in contrast to some places. I love a jacket kartoffel and choose her beats with various items from the menu, so ordered frying and avocado. katherine, one of the owners and cook came on our table and said she could suggest some other dishes and also vegan cheese if I did not the jacket kartoffel, but if I still did how about the topping of sonbs. what a nice geste and I will visit her on her offer of other options at the next. I noticed that they were able to offer vegan options for their Christmas card and also had two vegan, frozen meals to take away, moussaka and chili. my friends ordered a chicken and specksalat and a fish and chips and both said that eating was delicious with a mention that the chips were the best. my kartoffel was huge, with a lot of topping, served with beautiful salat and quickly grinded. the food is made fresh to order and blueberries is very popular as full it was on a cold Wednesday afternoon. there is also a small marquee on the side of the blueberries, which for those who are brave and sitting the weather and of course adds extra space. I really can't knock blueberries, they may not have vegan options (although a cake would be nice and I need to ask if they have plant milk as I always have my own. but they will always try to eat rusty something satisfying and with announcing can something like a vegan hotpot that I had before, what was brilliant."
