"Knowing that many villages in this part of rural France shut down on a Monday I had taken the precaution of ringing ahead to see if they were open on this particular day as I had business in the area. This restaurant, which, in the words of the propriétaire serves cuisine traditionnel has really quite a homely feel, like visiting your grandmother, but is actually on the first floor above a bar when you enter from the main road through Cossac Bonneval. You climb a set of quite steep stairs to what looks like a family dining room, which seats about 30 covers and there were just a smattering of local workers inside when we arrived for our Menu Ouvriers. The rear of this level opens out onto the car park at the foot of the Chateau and there is extensive parking outside.Declining wine for water, served from glass bottles with a blue tint on the bottom half, the meal started with a basket of French bread and Vegetable soup, and we were given two empty bowls and the soup tureen was set on the table for us to serve ourselves. There was plenty but knowing the number of courses to follow we restricted ourselves to a single bowl. Next up was a salad with ham, gherkins, tomatoes and coleslaw, this followed the same format with the salad plate put on the table for us to serve ourselves. The main course was Pork, accompanied by potatoes and carrots with a kind of honey glaze over them and was quite tasty although the meat was slightly on the tough side. This was followed by the cheese course, some 6 different cheeses were set out on a large platter and the creamy Brie that was included was a sheer delight. Our lunch concluded with a delicious Cherry sponge with butterscotch and as is sometimes the French way the cherries weren’t de-pipped before cooking. I stuck to the menu and finished with an expresso whereas my wife had a grand crème. All this for the princely sum of €28.60."

If you are visiting this area it is well worth trying. Traditional french cuisine, well cooked and very tasty in a rustic setting. The menu is whatever is being cooked that day but everything is delicious. Friendly atmosphere but no English spoken, however that isn't a problem.

I visited this restaurant after friends who have stayed in the area raved about it every time they went. We went as a group of 4, with a splattering of French between us. We were very warmly welcomed by the fantastic Mimi... but I should say before we got into the restaurant as we left the car outside the fantastic smell of the cooking was wafting out to us. There is no choice of a menu - we had the Plat De Jour, and basically for something like 14 Euros we had a 5 course meal with as much wine as you could drink. The menu changes every day but you get what has been grown locally in thier own gardens/allotments or sourced from nearby shops and it was just delicious. We had the following alth...

"A great New Year's Eve with a group of two people, singer and guitarist, smoothly to spend a good time, a very good hearty and delicious meal, a glass of champagne included, the hotel is comfortable and well insulated. We were able to sleep quietly despite the second part of the evening, a second room was dedicated with DJ from 1:30 in the morning. There are carrots outside the lake, very typical, where you can make yourself the kitchen. However, for trailers, no wifi access, you have to go to the reception. No television in the rooms or in the trailers, a choice of owners. A good breakfast with a croissant and bread, homemade jam, apple juice, hot drink. They are organic apple producers, their juice is delicious. They're selling them at the reception. The young lady at the reception, adorable and available, smiling. Very nice welcome. For the awakening, 219€ room and meal included, evening and breakfast otherwise 269€ in caravan. If you plan to come the day before, 89€ in carrot and 49€ in room, attention, everything is closed, even their own restaurant, plan to eat. Even for visits, pretty but deserted! The medieval city will welcome you not far away but you have quickly toured and there is no one. Here, if you want peace away from any civilization, you will be in the right place and if you want to spend the night of the New Year with friends in good conditions, you will enjoy it."
