"We had been spending plenty of money on meals in Provence, and we were looking for budget-friendly meals whenever we could. But then we spotted this cute little nook with outdoor tables in the shade, and we thought, what the heck, let's have an overpriced appetizer here before going elsewhere. But wow, we were wrong: the prices are just right for the outstanding quality and portion size. There are many restaurants around town that offer a desultory "aioli" special...but Le Criquet actually serves an amazing, beautifully presented, perfectly cooked aioli dish. If you tried aioli in other places and thought you didn't need any more, wait: give it a try one more time at Le Criquet.Service was quick and friendly. Everyone was smiling in this wonderful restaurant: servers and clients alike. The only unhappy people were the folks who showed up without reservations and hoped to get a table. Locals and tourists all know that this is the place to go, so make a reservation. In the end, it wasn't that much more expensive than the tourist traps. This restaurant is for real, and it's worth the price!"

Cosy, informal, delicious and friendly. We had the lunch menu. Service was impeccable, the food felt effortless but was the best meal we had on our whole 8 day trip.

All the style and flavours of Provence can be experienced with every visit to this wonderful establishment. We especially enjoy sitting in the little courtyard, utterly charming in every aspect.

We made a reservation at about noon for the same night. Service is very friendly, but all the people being turned down due to being 'complet' can be sometimes annoying. The food was very good, but nothing came to my mind that was really outstanding. Ver carta

We have been eating in local restaurants in the Provence area for the last few days and this was the best by far. Each course had wonderful flavours. Local specialities were the best. Staff were all charming friendly and knowledgeable. Do book because many people were turned away during the evening we were there.

Stopped here by chance since the outside dining alley looked so charming and pretty. We both had the lunch menu of the day which comprised of Duck breast on a beautiful medley of seasonal vegetables followed by homemade rice pudding. The food was faultless, perfectly seasoned and served by attentive and friendly staff. A wonderful surprise!

This is how everyone imagines a restaurant in Provence should be. Tucked into a side road off the ampitheatre, it's central but off the main tourist streets. Scrubbed wooden tables and simple stone walls, chalk board specials. The food (we ate mainly fish) was delicious, the wine fabulous, the waiting staff helpful and friendly. Do book ahead, its small. Fabulous place! Ver carta

Le Criquet was recommended to us from our hotel receptionist, and with good reason. I found it to be astoundingly good. Their specialty, bourride, was the most memorable thing we ate during our 8 days of vacation in the region. Also, the service was delightful and the ambiance charming. If you visit Arles, it is absolutely recommended. This all women crew is delivering excellent local food.

We returned to Le Criquet after one year and a lot can change in that time but not for this restaurant, we rated it excellent then but now it actually came out as superb and improved in that time. this family team of father chef, mother and two daughters front of house have so much passion for quality and service that it shows in every aspect I couldn't fault it. the freshness and flavors were sublime, I had sardines and Sea bream that were probably the best I have ever had, the desserts were home made simple and of high quality. we went back a couple of times during our week in Arles. Don't miss this treat.

"This restaurant is part of a hotel in a very impressive 16th century building. It looks very classy. However, the night we were there, there must have been some serious problems in the kitchen (or maybe it is always like that . We started with a shared plate of charcuterie which took a long time to arrive – how long does it take to arrange the cold meats on a plate? We then waited a very, very long time for our main courses. While waiting, we saw a dispute at another table involving the maître d’ and resulting in plates going back to the kitchen. We had both ordered duck à l’orange which came with Camargue rice. The rice appeared to have been baked in the oven and was so crisp and dry that it resembled a cereal bar. The ‘orange’ was not the usual sauce, but instead was four cubes of orange that appeared to have been scorched on a grill. They added nothing to the dish. It had been suggested that we should share a side of seasonal vegetables. These turned out to be big chunks of boiled potatoes (with rice! , a boiled root vegetable and a couple of dry artichokes. We had interchanges with two servers and the maître d – all were cold and brusque. We lived in France for more than 20 years and appreciate the fact that the French like to take their time with meals, but there is a big difference between leisurely and glacially slow. Perhaps we were there on a bad night, others seem to have had a better experience."
