"Two months ago, I went to dinner with friends at this restaurant. Unfortunately, the chicken schnitzel was undercooked and raw in the middle. The chef did correct this, but came out of the kitchen angrily and no apology was given by the servers. The lasagne also seemed suspect, with some parts hot and others cold, leading us to wonder if it had been microwaved. Additionally, we were overcharged on the bill. One staff member did try his best and provided decent service, earning them 2 stars, but it was clear that they were undertrained. The other staff members on shift offered no apologies or support to their colleague, and instead appeared rude and sarcastic, laughing and saying "see you next time.""

Had a fantastic experience at this restaurant! The food and beer were excellent and I can't wait to come back again. The burger and chips were probably the best I've had in Basingstoke. The price per person is between £20-30. I give the food, service, and atmosphere all a perfect score of 5.

decent pub food, good service from our food waiter, manages our expectations, as there are some big parties this evening, very chatting and helpful. drink waiter very friendly, but maybe a order pad, as forgetting one of three drinks and second drink order had to be asked for twice. very pleasant evening, will go again.

Booked online prior to arriving with my girlfriend for a couples meal. When we arrived, a few of the tables were dirty with food mess from previous people and the staff hadn’t wiped them down, just left there. The waitress then told us they had almost 70% of the menu unavailable! We specifically came for the Roast.. they could have called us before we made the journey over to let us know! We left and went somewhere else.Won’t be coming back or recommending.

We held my Father-in-Law's memorial service at the Barley Mow yesterday. From the moment we made the reservation, David Van der Laan took care of everything, from the menu to keeping us updated on any changes. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, making our family and friends feel welcome. The food was fantastic, with everyone commenting on its quality. Everything went smoothly from beginning to end. A big thank you to everyone at the Barley Mow for turning what was a sad day into a more comfortable one. Darren and Tracy Ryder.

"Our first visit. We cannot praise thank The Wellie highly enough. What a find! Peacefully rural on a quiet road to the south of Baughurst. A classic, pretty country pub, now converted to an excellent restaurant, with three rooms. What strikes you first is how immaculate The Wellie is, inside and out. The large garden is a delight. Masses of dahlias and all manner of bushes and plants. Birds, birds and more birds. Do check out the vegetable garden beyond the rear car park. You then walk inside to the warmest of relaxed welcomes from the owners, Simon and Jason, and manager, Sheila, and their lovely young helpers. Nothing is too much trouble. The first thing you’ll spot is the array of fruit, veg salad for sale by the pub bar – the Wellie Deli. Along with home made jams, chutneys, quiches, etc. I then spotted the two hand pumps! Longdog Golden Poacher Basingstoke Pride. The seating inside is for diners every session is a sell out! But I was very happy to sup several excellent pints of well kept draught Basingstoke Pride in the garden – until I discovered their Negronis! Truly the best this side of Kwant (Piccadilly). We’d opted for the room in the pub: the Apartment. Two rooms on the first floor, knocked through. Enormous comfy bed, large rainfall shower, sofa, mini bar – two TVs! Free milk homemade shortbread. One of the discoveries we made here is the fabulous tea they serve from Prince Sons. As you can tell by now, we were very happy with our first stay at The Wellie… and then we went down for dinner! A truly exceptional menu from Jason’s kitchen, which changes each evening. Highlights were the scallops wrapped in pancetta, the pollack, the lamb pot pie, the twice baked cheese souffle, the NY cheesecake, the rhubarb ice cream, the treacle tart... All so fresh, tasty, and mainly from their garden. What we loved most was it was relaxed but fine dining without the tiny portions. The Full English breakfast the next morning was equally tasty. All in all, we did not want to go home! Thank you Simon, Jason Sheila. We will be back, soon."
