"During a 6 day visit to Berlin, we thought that at least once during the trip, we should eat traditionally. Lutter und Wegner is just that. Opened in 1811 it has a fantastic traditional authentic interior with dark wood tables and chairs, great decor and furnishings and a nice outside seating area. Our table was ready for us when we arrived and we decided to sit indoors as it was raining and a little chilly (although June!) Our waitress was very friendly and made us feel most welcome. They spotted my very poor German quickly and were happy to converse in English. We chose our traditional German dishes, schnitzel, with potato salad and boiled beef in a horse radish sauce. The food arrived quickly and a passable wine which was not a rip off at all made the evening a pleasant one. Although there were more English speaking that German speaking customers in on the night we were there, you certainly feel as if you are in a place that is not and has not been built for the tourist trade."
