"We were shown to our table promptly. Three adults and a toddler requiring a high chair. We ordered soft drinks which came quickly. We had to ask for a waitress to then come to take our food order after waiting 20 minutes. Our food then took over an hour to arrive, by which time our toddler was very unsettled and we were past being hungry. Waitress was friendly but clearly was inexperienced. Food itself was adequate. Chips were really nice. But the rest was just ok. I noticed another party return one of their meals. I'm not sure of the reason but it didn't surprise me. I have had several lovely meals at this pub in the past but my recent experience has made me question whether I would visit again."

Awful experience today. Been lots and lots of times before and usually enjoyable. However, today was very uninviting, very cold and the food only just acceptable. Very disappointed, won't be returning for some time.

We stopped by for an early dinner and enjoyed a meal of fish and chips and steak and ale pie. The pub had a welcoming atmosphere, excellent service, a great selection of beer, and delicious food. Overall, it was a hidden gem.

Stopped by here for lunch with my husband last week, been wanting to go for ages and not had the chance. We both had the hunters chicken sandwich and can say it was definitely worth the wait, can’t wait to go back! Packed with plenty of chicken, bacon sauce delicious sandwich, served with homemade chips and a lovely fresh side salad. Would recommend we had a lovely lunch. The staff are always friendly and really helpful as well

The food was good, but the wait times were awful. My family and I had lunch there and had to wait over an hour and a half, even though there were only 3 other people in the restaurant. We ordered a treacle sponge, but it came without custard, and even when we asked for it, we never received it. The waitress was inexperienced and the service was slow. The food was good, but it wasn't worth the wait. If you're in a hurry, be cautious of the wait times.

The food itself was a mixed bag. Dad's fish was delicious and a good portion size, served with homemade chips. The steaks and burgers were also tasty. However, two of us ordered the roast of the day and were disappointed. It consisted of overcooked chicken breast, microwaved mash, frozen roast potatoes, hard stuffing, and rock-hard vegetables. The only highlight was the Yorkshire pudding. We were expecting a traditional Sunday dinner, but this was a disappointment. Ver carta

Lunch off spec. Many years since we last ate here but still the same traditional style pub inside. Needs updating a bit in places. We had garlic mushrooms. Delicious and filling. Hubby had a fair sized gammon, egg, pineapple chips and salad and said it was nice. I had sunday dinner on a weekday. Good portions, nice fresh veg, though meat, beef a bit chewy but tasty. Overall decent value. But please put the fire on! It was nippy. The other custs were sat in their coats. Hence stars reduced sorry.

Been coming for many many years, the last few times has been getting worse, last night topped it, ordered fish that had very little fish in and cooked to death, chips only warm, we’ve never complained but thought we should tell the staff to let the chef know, obviously for his future, when paid staff never said she’d told the chef so never got a sorry and never offer a little discount even though we would have insisted paying the full bill, pretty shocking really and will not go back, also no heating on and noticed people had there coats on

"The welcome we received was pleasant, although not very personal, and our details were not checked, which was surprising considering how difficult it was to secure a reservation. The restaurant is not licensed, so guests are welcome to bring their own drinks. My husband and I brought two bottles of champagne, but we were not offered an ice bucket and were given standard wine glasses instead of flutes. The food was served promptly, starting with an amuse bouche of butternut squash veloute with a creamy accompaniment served in egg boxes. The chef explained the dish himself, and it was delicious. The second course, an aged rice dish reminiscent of a soupy risotto flavored with parmesan and espresso, was my least favorite. I found it poorly presented and the coffee flavor didn't come through well. The third course, a beautifully cooked lamb cutlet finished on a barbecue outside, was accompanied by flavorful lentils. However, the broccoli that came with it was plain and could have used some additional flavor. The dish was not explained to us. The fourth dish, which I initially thought was eel, turned out to be smoked eel and was served with beetroot. This was one of my favorite dishes of the night. We were served two desserts: a warm chocolate foam with orange sorbet and a deconstructed rhubarb custard with pink meringue pieces, both of which were delicious. The bill was not presented to us, so we followed the lead of other guests who left cash on the table as they left. My husband had a nice chat with the chef, and I joined in after a visit to the restroom. The chef was very knowledgeable and skilled with flavors. Overall, I was a bit disappointed by the lack of personality in presenting and explaining each dish. The experience felt somewhat impersonal and lacked interest. I believe guest interaction is crucial, so my tip would be for the restaurant to take the time to engage with guests, even if it means spending less time in the kitchen. I did not give a perfect score due to the presentation and slightly underwhelming flavors in some dishes. I believe that in fine dining, every element of the dish should be bursting with flavor. Despite this, we had an enjoyable evening and would return if we are able to secure a reservation."
