"Matsch is the oldest Gaststaette in Plauen, having first opened in 1503. I've eaten at Matsch several times, most recently during the month of May, when we could sit outside in the "Beer Garden" Courtyard, and on the "Beer Garden Terrace." The food is excellent, including some traditional Vogtland dishes, and non-regional entrees. No matter what the food, it is always very good! A good selection of wine, beer and alcohol is also available. One interior dining room is more traditional, and the other interior dining room is more 20th Century. I had never eaten in the beer garden before, and this trip, I had two dinners - one in the main courtyard and one on the beer garden terrace; and then breakfast in the courtyard on another day. The building complex was restored after the reunification and both the beer garden courtyard and terrace offer tables where one can hold quiet conversations with friends, while enjoying the culinary delights. Menu is extensive and breakfast consists of a buffet, which is extensive and very good. Because of Matsch, I also learned to read signs more carefully, as on the outside of the inn, it mentions Goethe's trip to Karlsbad, he traveled through Plauen, but did NOT stay at Matsch. I had assumed for years that he had. :o) It's a total joy to dine here - good food, good service, and great ambience."
