"We just returned from Hamburg, where we spent 3 days. Due to the positive reviews on Trip Advisor, my wife and I visited this pub. The food was excellent and so was the beer. We had Jager Schnitzel and Duckstein beer. The services was great. The following morning, I realized that I no longer had my hat and that I had left it at the pub. My wife and I walked over to the pub at 10:30 am (it does not open until 11:00 am). The owner was there setting everything up for the day. I knocked on the door, he opened up, and after explaining that I had left my hat the night before, he was very gracious and showed me where my hat was hanging up. Needless to say, I was very impressed by his customer service, and decided to eat dinner there later that same day. We were not disappointed. My only regret is that we chose to eat somewhere else on our third night. We should have returned to this pub, as we were very disappointed with the restaurant we selected (Nagel)."

Small local bar serving food. Appeared to be a local hang-out in the evenings. Had breakfast here and was satisfied with both food and service. Good pricing for Hamburg.

The food came fast and was delicious and the prices are great. Staff was not very friendly. Very good located and easy to find. If you want some place more quiet, I believe that this is not the place for you.

We found this bar much more friendly than Frau Moller (as well as being cheaper) and we would have been happy to have spent all evening drinking in here as it has a nice ambience.2 large Vienna schnitzels and 2 large beers came to 26 Euros so very good value.Recommended.

Perfect popular bistro to eat cheap and well surrounded by local people from the district. Max & Consorten is right between the Central Station and the Turkish district. The terrace is quite pleasant and the inside will bring you all the warmth a German popular place can bring. Don't expect anything to fussy, you go there to eat correctly and far enough and… drink beer! Ver carta

We had a nice meal here. Waitress could have been a bit nicer (don't think she really wanted to be here) it was lovely to see so many locals out and about in a pub on a mission day night. We where lucky to get a table. Food is reasonable priced and the Apple strudel is very nice (even though not home made - we have been told by the waitress) Def. Worth a visit when in Hamburg.

Food is delicious, very big portions except the desserts, but those are really cheap so that's understandable. But the whole experience was cheap. Great atmosphere, busy, many locals. Service was awful, not very nice, not very helpful, took ages to order something. But I do recommend it if you like local food and they also have vegetarian and Italian options. Meat and fish. Very nice, especially for that price.

After positive reviews on trip advisor came for dinner at around 7pm plenty of space indoors as was a lovely day outside. Got an english menu on request, had pork schnitzel and grilled chicken and could not have been better. The food was absolutely delicious. Definitely get the feel you are in a local pub everyone seemed to know each other very cosy and ended up sitting and drinking for a while as just didn't want to leave. Would absolutely come back. Note cash only! Ver carta

I'd been here last year with a friend and couldn't wait to eat here with my husband. The atmosphere is great, it gets quite crowded with what seems a mix of locals & tourists. We came here both nights we were in Hamburg, it was so good we figured why look anywhere else? Service quick & friendly, food delicious, hot and VERY reasonably priced. My husband had the rice & veg dish both nights, & says he will have it again for sure next time we're in Hamburg! Loved sitting at shared tables, made it cosy & convivial!

Max und Consorten was recommended to me by a local friend as a place for low key food and drinks on a Saturday night. It exceeded expectation in every way. The beer selection was great. The food menu was a bit overwhelming at first because it was quite long and there was no English translation. But the two waitress tried their best to help me. The beer was great and the food was not fussy but very tasty and the portion was generous. We ended up chatting with the locals and having a good laugh about European politics. I couldn't think of a better way to spend a Saturday night in a foreign city.

"There's always a question (in my mind, anyway) as to Michelin's accuracy/usefulness outside of France. In the US, it's not very helpful at all and in Europe ex-France, I've found it hit and miss. Haerlin represented only my second stab at a two-star in Germany and the first meal (Heinz Winkler), while a thoroughly wonderful overall experience, felt like the second star might have been a stretch. Not so at Haerlin, this was a two-star meal that stands fork-to-fork with any I can remember. The food is stylized to within an inch of its life, but close to flawless in both conception and execution. Outside of a large selection of generally unremarkable breads and a luke-warm roasted onion broth added to an amuse at table side that probably should have been hotter, the meal was simply one perfect dish after another. Maybe the sorbet intermezzo was a little old school in such a fashion forward meal, but - hey - it was delicious! Keep it.The room is suitably formal, luxurious in a traditional style, and quite comfortable. The pace of service might be a little leisurely for some (I ate alone and the four-course menu (seven + courses, including amuses, etc) pushed it a bit, stretching just over three hours. However, the friendly and attentive staff kept an eye out the entire time and stopped by if the time between courses presented the opportunity. The somm, in particular, was a great diversion, visiting from time to time to discuss the varied and interesting wines on offer. He provided useful insight into the outstanding selection of trocken Rieslings on the list. He guided me to a 2001 Burklin-Wolf GG that, at Eu 150, was both a great bottle of mature white and a tremendous value for a wine of this quality in this type of restaurant. (Good luck finding a white burgundy of this quality at this price at any multi-star restaurant - or at retail, for that matter.) He also suggested a wonderful German Pinot Noir by the glass that worked perfectly with the meat course and wasn't terribly expensive. The list is extensive, but not the tome you see at some restaurants, but don't be fooled - wine service at Haerlin is both a major plus and represents notable value in the context of multi-star restaurants.I'm not going to argue two-star vs three-star because that distinction often seems to be kind of mysterious (and tangentially related to the food), but I will say that this place certainly deserves two stars. I had just a flat-out great meal. If you can work in a visit, Haerlin should be high on your list."
