"So very disappointed with my meal at the Mussel Inn. Have been here lots of times before and always had their seafood chowder. I have enjoyed and looked forward to it many times. But no more. Today 's chowder was bland, the fish and seafood had been ground down so it wasn 't chunky, it was watery and not creamy. It tasted cheap and luxurious as it has in the past. I also had a half pot of mussels in shallot sauce. These were delicious. The bread was fresh and crunchy but no butter. I can 't remember if I used to get butter automatically but it may be something you now need to ask for. I mentioned to the waitress at the time that the chowder wasn 't good and she returned it to the kitchen. When I asked her later what they had said, she said they just ignored me. There was no issue with the chowder being removed from the bill (it 's £11.90 for a large bowl so not cheap) but i won 't visit there again. I used to go as a treat, something for when I was child free in Edinburgh. If you want a good seafood chowder then go elsewhere. To give it it 's due, if you enjoy fresh mussels, then I would recommend it for that."

Great dining experience in Edinburgh. Fresh oysters, exceptional soup of the day, and tasty mussels with blue cheese. Could use more blue cheese and less bacon for fuller flavor. Good service, even as the last guests, and reasonable prices. Will return.

"Amazing seafood at this restaurant on Rose Street. Make sure to try the delicious Moroccan mussels. The sea bass was also excellent. We enjoyed a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc as well. The sticky date pudding was delicious. The scallops were also very good."

A group of 4 mature (ie old) friends made a last minute booking after a day of sightseeing and hostelry visiting. The service was friendly and efficient and the food was tasty and sensibly priced. I had the squid from the Specials Board followed by a large pot of Mussels. The Chilean and NZ wines were tested for taste and value for money! In all, including tip, we paid £50 a head.

This place is excellent. We enjoy visiting whenever we are in Edinburgh. The staff provide friendly and attentive service, even during busy periods. There are plenty of options on the menu, but we always choose the mussels because they are amazing - there are plenty in a portion and they are cooked to perfection every time. We highly recommend this place and are already looking forward to returning. Highly recommend it.

I got sick the next day after eating the oysters and lobster at this restaurant. We also didn't receive all the food we ordered (sides never arrived). It is against the law to not include VAT in your prices or to at least inform customers that prices do not include VAT and will be added at the end of the bill. While it may not be strictly illegal to not have VAT listed on the menu, it is against the law to not have it displayed on prices outside the restaurant, such as on the specials board.

We didn 't have a table booked for Friday night, and they said come back in 30 mins , so we grabbed a drink in one of the pubs that are very close, We really liked the look and feel of Mussel Inn the decor and seating are very casual. The food was delicious, we shared a hot sea food platter, that was plenty for 2, and delicious (again sorry! and obviously fresh. Very good value (esp as I think Edinburgh is a very expensive city . I think we paid £46 a head for starters, and the platter, with chips and bread.

Great little restaurant. We booked a table at 8:30 and I’d was full of customers and vibrant. Simple menu primarily sea food as the name suggests with shell fish front and centre. The service was friendly and fast. The food was amazing. We had oyster natural and grilled to start they were fresh and full of the sea. We then had mussels mine Moroccan of the menu chilli garlic and warm spices) and my partner the special chilli and smoked cheese). The mussels were soft and sumptuous and the broths so tasty. Came with fresh crusty bread to mop it up. Wine list was moderate but we had a nice picpoul which complimented the food. Will return next time I’m in Edinburgh

Wanted to go somewhere different instead of going to the usaul places for lunch and remembered the mussel inn from a few years ago pre Covid). The waiter was great and was able to answer questions we had about the menu and ordered two red pepper mussel pots, which were delicious. But I was already to give a 5 star review, until the bill came. When checking our bill we noticed a “service charge”, had been added to the bill, this was not explained to us that it had been added bill was brought by another waiter) and didn’t know that it was voluntary to pay it. The only reason we paid it, was because we thought we had too. I am very shocked and angry that this happened. This isn’t America and sh...

"new kapitel has caught my attention after I was on top ten on trip advisor only months after the opening in the oktober last year. that and the fact that it is open for my early january birthday, made it the perfect place to celebrate to become a little older. I was with the man and his family. the man is quite used to my taste and good to the kind of kitchen that would appeal to me for a special occasion; his family not so much and I was filled with shame as his mother scornful went through the menu trying to find something she would enjoy. I've eaten with the family of the man, and I know they enjoy eating, so I think it's a failure of the menu that it is not accessible. the benming always blooming and garnish can appeal to some, but for others it is overcomplicated and it is necessary to find a balance between the two. we start with the starters and I go for venison sour wort pithvier. the venison was underheated and incredibly dry, to the happiness the sourded a little moisturizing and so saved the whole dish, but the aromen were quite not clear, except the garnitur of plastered mushrooms I thoroughly enjoyed. for the largest part we chose a fish dish for our main,- sea trout, smoked muddles, petersilien and coast herbs. where the starter fell, the main recording is getting back. the dish is rich and creamy, and each element adds the complexity of the taste as a whole, without disturbing. the concept is now an old one, and it would be deceptive if it had not worked, as it would essentially pay with this place. I enjoyed my meal in new chapter, although I do not agree with it is stellar status under the hierarchy of edinburgh eateries. it is top ten position is just a flash in the pan of hot popularity, and in time it will be plated in the upper half of the middle stage where it belongs. and that is where it belongs, the dishes can be plated with a michelin star in understood, and the venue and the supporting media has the clean lines and empty slate look of fine but eat the team has a long gone to go if that is their real aim. at the end, although it was a beautiful meal, and cheap (at the moment I would not be surprised to see their prices slowly rise) and the man’s mother found something they enjoyed and that is the most important."
