I can't believe how little reviews there are so far! picnic basket must be the only most important food source for informatics staff (and probably the rest of the campus) at midday! the service is fast and friendly, the sandwiches are great!

If you're looking for a delicious sandwich, this is the place to go. With a wide selection of options, everything I tried was fresh, tasty, and well presented, all at a reasonable price. The staff is very friendly and overall, it outshines Subway and other sandwich shops in town.

Your typical coffee/sandwich shop which serves good, affordable 'on the go ' food. They have a wide range of bread for you to choose from which is a plus point when compared to other sandwich shops in Edinburgh. Seats are limited, only 2 in fact, so avoid lunch time if you want to dine in. Ver carta

I visit Edinburgh 3 or 4 times a year and found this little gem a couple of years ago I now make sure I head there whenever I am in the City and have never been disappointed. Food always great and never a long wait, even when busy at lunch times...would highly recommend to anyone in the area!

I frequent this restaurant often because it is conveniently located near my university. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. The woman who works there is very friendly, but unfortunately, the man is quite rude. His customer service is terrible and I have never seen him smile, which has made me hesitant to return despite the woman's kindness.

Amazing, very nutritious and extremely tasty food! I get the unlimited salad box for £6 and it has flavour, protein, fat, vitamins, minerals, and tastes delicious. My salad box had cheese, sun dried tomatoes, red peppers, jalapenos, mango chicken, coronation chicken, lettuce, red cabbage coleslaw, tomatoes and cucumbers!! They also give a very generous amount! This is a lovely little takeaway lunch place near the University of Edinburgh. I've been meaning to pop in for quite a while, so I'm glad I finally did. The sandwich selection is large, and vegetarians are certainly adequately covered by the choices on offer. I chose a bacon, brie and cranberry sandwich £2.80 for a regular size), and it tasted wonderful. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. Service was quick and friendly, and there are about three seats in the window if you want to sit in. However, I'm certain the place is more aimed at being for takeaway. For a quick lunch at a great price, there are very few better options. Recommended.

I recently visited a fantastic sandwich shop that offers a wide variety of breads and rolls with fresh, tasty, and interesting fillings. As a picky eater, I have specific preferences for my sandwiches such as wet tuna mayo, chunky egg mayo, hot bacon, warm tomatoes, and just the right amount of cheese in a toasty. The soup should be hot enough to warm you up without burning your mouth and should not be overly salty. The Picnic Basket did not disappoint, providing delicious food with a smile and a bit of humor. I highly recommend trying their mushroom soup on Wednesdays, as it is simply awesome. Overall, a great lunch spot that always delivers, offering great value for money.

I found Picnic Basket when looking for somewhere to eat before 7am in a squall on a bank holiday. The owner let me in early even though she hadn't gotten her deliveries yet. The place is no frills and no seating. Put the service is local, friendly, and the food is excellent. Bakery rolls with made to order eggs, bacon, etc. or if you want something lighter butter and jam. Porridge with all the toppings and freshly made scones are also top choices. I grabbed breakfast to go on the way to the bus stop every morning. Shop is open for breakfast and lunch on weekdays only. Never had lunch here, but only because were I was working wouldn't allow the trip. Lunch menu looked very yummy for fast but... Ver carta
