"We had a table booked for 730,shown to our table by a very attentive young lady. I can say the waitresses worked really hard were pleasant, but the way the landlord spoke to them as quite arrogant. We were eventually asked if we were ready to order around 8. The waitress then told us the order was not being put through for around 15minutes.After a while we were informed that the oven was broke and that food had stopped, this could of been nearly 830. We were told someone was on the way to fix it just then we were told the starters were on the way by this point it was nearly 9pm. The only problem was 2 of the starters had no salad as they had ran out.. Our main meals eventually around 930 we ate them but none us really enjoyed them by this point. Food I had garlic bread £3 you got basically a very crusty type of half baguette. Only a very small handful of chips on the hunters chicken,3 of these were ordered for our table and it looked like 1 portion of chips had been split between them. There was no salad on these and never even offered us some peas or other veg instead. The only positive was the company around our table and the food was actually sent out hot."

Reasonably priced, large portions of OK food served by very friendly staff, if your looking for a hearty pub food and drink with no frills Red Lion is not a bad place to visit.

We recently had the best Sunday lunch at a pub in a long time. The meal was delicious and offered excellent value for money. We will definitely be returning in the future. The cost per person was between £10 and £20.

Brilliant place! The children love running around in the beer garden and the food is very nice. We definitely couldn’t fault the service as the staff are all welcoming and very friendly. So glad to have this place just a short walk away.

"Our room faced the front of the hotel, and while the village was quiet with only two pubs and a small corner store, it seemed to be a shortcut for heavy vehicles speeding downhill at night, with headlights constantly illuminating our room. We also found out that the hotel closes in the evening if it's not busy, and the front door may be locked as early as 10 PM, requiring a code for re-entry. The internet service was poor; even standing just outside the front door, I had no reception and couldn't call the emergency numbers posted there. It appears that the quality of the rooms varies significantly, with some having been upgraded while others are less desirable, including our own. When we questioned our bill because we didn't think the room was worth £140, we were told that since we had booked through Charming Escapes, we should take it up with them, as the hotel receives only a fraction of what we paid. This made us feel like second-class guests, especially since it seemed we were stuck in a low-quality room. The standard rate for a double room is £90, and if I were to rate our experience like on the TV show "Four in a Bed," I would say £50 a night would have been generous. Previous reviews also mentioned an issue with the door handle and the ability to lock the room, which had not been fixed. If you’re just looking for a place to dry off your hiking boots, this hotel might suffice, but I wouldn't recommend staying here again. It has a lot of potential, and thankfully, we had a wonderful evening at The Devonshire Arms just across the street—it felt like a whole different experience. It seems the staff at Charles Cotton have simply given up."
