"Girls Night Out in my old hometown just down the street from my old high school. Unbeknownst to me the traditional farm house had been turned into a hip, yet cozy cafe/restaurant. Since February is cold, we dined indoors, surrounded by festive red walls...and inviting decor. The menu changes seasonally and favors local harvest and sustainable raised/caught fish and meats as a base for the Italian inspired cooking. Extensive wine list in reds and whites and for those German cravings there are also Bratkartoffeln on the menu, traditionally served with house-made remoulade and cold roast beef. I can't wait to come back during the warmer months to try the fresh cakes and coffee in their gorgeous outdoor garden setting."

good place to have a lunch with colleagues, friends or business friends. every day gives a beautiful platt du jour garden in beautiful trees and quiet environment the atmosphere of being outside the city, but still inside.

a very cozy atmosphere, hidden in the forest. with a beautiful garden. beautiful trees. charming place with good and personal service. limited selection of food, but quality. in this relaxed atmosphere you feel like at home. it visited it quite often and was never disappointed. Ver carta

this restaurant never fails to provide personal, good services. eating is great and I like the red and white interieur and the pretty garden. Unfortunately, it is often hardly half full so that the ambiente is missing, otherwise I would eat there more often. I was for lunch and dinner and both were good. Afternoon cakes are also available, but I have not experienced them yet.

This charming restaurant is among trees nearby the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, just walk distance. The most significant note to me was the sensations and smells flowing up from a well prepared food. The palce is frequented by judges and...local residents, everyone acting so polited that it was possible to ear some birds outside. I hope to be back there soon.

This is one of our favorite restaurants in Hamburg. Always great food quality and a relaxed atmosphere, hidden away right next to a park in a romantic garden setting. The menu has something for everyone and meals provide a variety following the season. Creative, but...not over the top. A small, very personal restaurant with its very own style that we visit at least once a month. Ver carta

This is our favourite local restaurant in this area of Western Hamburg. Very consistent food, simple but always good quality. The menu changes quite regularly, but with some standard items as well. Inside is very cozy, and in warmer weather there is a lovely shady...garden where you can dine. You can hardly believe that you are in the city of Hamburg as it is on the edge of a park, and very peaceful.

"There's always a question (in my mind, anyway) as to Michelin's accuracy/usefulness outside of France. In the US, it's not very helpful at all and in Europe ex-France, I've found it hit and miss. Haerlin represented only my second stab at a two-star in Germany and the first meal (Heinz Winkler), while a thoroughly wonderful overall experience, felt like the second star might have been a stretch. Not so at Haerlin, this was a two-star meal that stands fork-to-fork with any I can remember. The food is stylized to within an inch of its life, but close to flawless in both conception and execution. Outside of a large selection of generally unremarkable breads and a luke-warm roasted onion broth added to an amuse at table side that probably should have been hotter, the meal was simply one perfect dish after another. Maybe the sorbet intermezzo was a little old school in such a fashion forward meal, but - hey - it was delicious! Keep it.The room is suitably formal, luxurious in a traditional style, and quite comfortable. The pace of service might be a little leisurely for some (I ate alone and the four-course menu (seven + courses, including amuses, etc) pushed it a bit, stretching just over three hours. However, the friendly and attentive staff kept an eye out the entire time and stopped by if the time between courses presented the opportunity. The somm, in particular, was a great diversion, visiting from time to time to discuss the varied and interesting wines on offer. He provided useful insight into the outstanding selection of trocken Rieslings on the list. He guided me to a 2001 Burklin-Wolf GG that, at Eu 150, was both a great bottle of mature white and a tremendous value for a wine of this quality in this type of restaurant. (Good luck finding a white burgundy of this quality at this price at any multi-star restaurant - or at retail, for that matter.) He also suggested a wonderful German Pinot Noir by the glass that worked perfectly with the meat course and wasn't terribly expensive. The list is extensive, but not the tome you see at some restaurants, but don't be fooled - wine service at Haerlin is both a major plus and represents notable value in the context of multi-star restaurants.I'm not going to argue two-star vs three-star because that distinction often seems to be kind of mysterious (and tangentially related to the food), but I will say that this place certainly deserves two stars. I had just a flat-out great meal. If you can work in a visit, Haerlin should be high on your list."
