"We stopped at this cafe as a midway point on the Cleveland Way Coastal Walk. There's a sign for the cafe on top of the cliff, but to get there, you have to trek up a steep hill through a campsite, which was quite a workout—even for someone like me who considers themselves relatively fit! However, once we arrived, we found the cafe to be clean, the staff friendly, and the menu quite appealing. We ordered a ham and cheese sandwich, which I forgot to photograph, but I have to say it was likely one of the best sandwiches we've ever had."

"The food was delicious, the flavours, textures and portions were perfect. I had the duck to start (run don't walk), the pork main (WOW) and the apple and treacle tart to finish. My partner and I both had the pork belly which was melt in the mouth good, the combination of flavours from the pumpkin, butternut squash and the sauce were heavenly. The service was exceptional, Olivia and Emily were friendly and checked in on us enough to know we were being looked after without intruding on our meal. It's a small restaurant (approx 7 tables), the atmosphere was the perfect blend of busy but not crowded, with compliments to the chef floating in the air. We'll definitely be booking in advance (you have to) the next time we come to Whitby. "I have Coeliac Disease so we chose this place for breakfast as they had an abundance of gluten free options and was only a short walk from our hotel. I’m so glad we did as the staff were very friendly and attentive. Quick service. It was lovely to see that they were a dog friendly cafe as well (they even have a dog menu!! which was a lovely bonus to see all the lovely dogs enjoying some breakfast as well. I had the gluten free “Eggs a la swamp” which was poached eggs with a gluten free ciabatta roll, smashed avocado and a roasted tomato sauce. My non-gf partner had Eggs Royale. It was absolutely delicious and the poached eggs were cooked to perfection! Unfortunately we aren’t local but if we are ever back in Whitby, we would definitely go back!"

"It was such a pleasant experience in here. Me and my bf went there for lunch, and we sat in a lovely booth with a sea view. I ordered mussels cooked in white wine and cream sauce. My bf had the prawn cocktail. As a main we both had the lobster thermidor. The quality of food here is top notch. And service from staff was excellent. Our server Eammon in particular really looked after us well and made sure everything was ok. I highly recomend this place if you are looking for a nice seafood meal. "Haven 't written a review for several years but this place really pushed the button so here I go. Booked this from Australia months ago based on good reviews and photos of rooms and restaurant. Luke warm welcome and showed to an over heated, airless garret at the top of the house. We had requested a quiet room but this was claustrophobic with a small double bed. Our request to move to another room was granted and we went to another king size bedded room at the front. King size in UK means queen size in most other jurisdictions. Nothing luxurious about this. No nice touches. Knackered pillows and tired old furnishings. Basic bathroom and if you don 't pull on the top of the shower door to get out you could be in there for ever. On the plus side we were not charged for our upgraded room. Place appears to be on the downhill run. No vacancy sign was up but only us and another couple in residence. This restaurant had acquired a double rosette from the AA so we were expecting something really special. Whitebait starter was good, paid extra for crab spring rolls which were pretty bland. Our main of fish pie comprised of a round pile of chopped up seafood smothered in a white sauce with a seaweed accompaniment and boiled potatoes and peas. Where was the pastry in the seafood pie? Nowhere to be seen in this totally tasteless dish. Dessert was an offering of several small sweet concoctions which you could get a selection of 5 of if you shared. Given what had come before we opted for the cheese plate which had had no intervention from the chef...the best course. Yalumba wines appear to have a share holding in this establishment as their logo and wines are everywhere. In Australia we know them for their budget boxes of cask wine but here they were shown a great deal more reverence. Only NZ and Australia featured on the red wines list. No European and no other new world wines......and this is a double rosette restaurant?? One wine by the glass and that was a Yalumba Shiraz which we passed on. Went to the pub after dinner for a glass of their house red....much nicer. In summary over priced and under delivered in everything. Pleased to move on"
