"We went to the Scacco Matto for dinner after reading the positive reviews here. The hostess seated us at a good table and we ordered a Caprese salad, mix seafood grill and seafood risotto. When you offer a simple 3 4 ingredient dish like Caprese salad, in Italy where they have the world's best tomatoes, bufala mozzarella, basil, and balsam vinegar, you expect a pretty good meal, especially from a highly rated (if pricey) restaurant. What went wrong? The Caprese salad used tomatoes so unripe they were hard and flavorless. There was no basil AT ALL. The bufala was good. We had to ask for balsam vinegar and the waiter appeared annoyed, reluctantly throwing at us exactly two small packets of cheap balsam you'd expect to see at a fast food drive through. (Other restaurants nearby routinely provide proper bottles of good olive oil and balsam on the table). We can't believe any chef would allow such a dish to be prepared, let alone served to guests. The other dishes the seafood mixed grill and risotto were both OK but ordinary nothing directly wrong, but not memorable in any way. And, as a final insult, unlike every other nearby restaurant which took Covid precautions seriously, our waiter chose not to wear a mask. We will not be returning to Scacco Matto. There was simply no reason for this disgraceful meal."

Insalata tropeana buonissima, la migliore mai assaggiata qua a Tropea! Lo spaghetto alle vongole non male ma poche vongole! Nel complesso luogo carino!

Went here twice during my stay. Two excellent lunches. The simple shrimp pasta with pistachios and paccheri was super good and the salad with calabria red onions was incredible. You must eat these sweet treats at every chance you get. The best in the world.

Abbiamo cominciato con antipasto di mare dove solo il polpo e patate era fantastico, il resto ancora di più, il secondo erano involtini di pesce spada una vera prelibatezza ricetta segreta dello chef) e poi il tonno scottato con cipolle rosse di Tropea altra prelibatezza) il tutto accompagnato da vino bianco Calabro molto delicato. Tutto questo, insieme alla simpatia e cordialità dei titolari, rende il ristorante una vera chicca. Consigliato
