"Firstly sat on a wet chair. Not a good start. Asked for beef Sunday roast. Was told no beef available, which I thought was odd, for saying how early it was. Opted for turkey. Whilst eating, heard another diner being told beef was available. My partner had half of lager, served in a non lager glass, which immediately went flat. The glass wasn't changed, just topped up, immediately went flat again. Eventually got the glass changed, for a proper lager glass. We both had the turkey roast. Poor quality, two very small roast potatoes and the smallest portion of stuffing. Very disappointed. We had booked for Christmas day lunch. After this experience, may cancel."

Our experience was top drawer from start to finish. Every member of staff was friendly and attentive and the 3 (different) courses myself and my partner had were all superb such high quality and tasty food and drinks and a great selection. Our main waitress Laura was fab! We feel very lucky to have had such a great pub next to our Travelodge. We’ll be sure to return the next time we travel up from London to visit Alton Towers! Price per person: £40–50

"In the beginning, God created many things from Monday to Saturday and on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. Or did he? No. No he didn’t. On the seventh day God created Bennys. This biblical reference does not do justice to just how divine a Bennys is. It is a kebab/pizza/fast food shop steeped in glory and mystery. Some scholars have actually considered Bennys as the final resting place of both the ark of the covenant and the Lance of the Longinus. If Dan Brown has written another book, I have no doubt Bennys would have featured because the food is so good. I have been to Bennys three times a holy trinity of visits. Each time I have opted for a seminal chicken kebab. The chicken has been fresh and plump and proper (a bird sacrificed for the grace of our plates). The spices have oozed with flavour, cleansing my very soul. The pitta has been strong and resolute in its carrying of the other constituent items of perfection. The salad has been clean, cutting through the spice, to reclaim the innocence of my tastebuds for another spiritual bite. The hot sauce has teased my palate (and my perineum) with a fiery wet heat of a culinary miracle. The chips have been a hybrid of soft and crispy, like a kettle chip which has had an illegitimate child with a cloud. And the garlic mayonnaise, oh yes the garlic mayonnaise, embodies the fulcrum of the holy trinity of God. I believe in a church. The church of Bennys. It is wholesome, it is great, it guides me to the green pastures of hope, away from the barren epoch of servitude you get with other late night food venues. Benny was the 13th apostle and he founded his church here in Ashbourne. I once saw a drunk 19 year old get hit by a 2013 Renault Twingo outside of Bennys. Was he hurt? Was he maimed? No, a beam of alabaster white light transcending mind and soul came out of Bennys as it happened. He walked again. It’s not my place to say, but if that accident had happened anywhere else, I don’t think he would have lived. To me, Bennys is more than a kebab shop. Maj and the boys run one hell of an establishment. Just like Derbyshire was home to the Arkwright mills and the birthplace of the industrial revolution, it is home to Bennys my church. While the Arkwright Mills had consequences for the direction of mankind, so too, to a far greater extent, does Bennys. Fun fact: just down the road from Ashbourne is Belper where Timothy Dalton grew up."
