"I have been a few times and was rooting for these independent bakers to make a successful transition to cafe ownership. Spent most of my time watching them get it more and more wrong. Main problem is that they are filthy dirty... front of house, baked goods counter, espresso machine, kitchen and bathrooms. Even above average food is not enticing out of a dirty kitchen. I chose not to eat this visit. The Blonde was happy with expensive avocado toast. Come for a hot sterile coffee if you must! Although beware the sus mugs (they ran out of clean cups during our visit) Espresso drinks come with a free sideshow as young untrained staff completely **** off the customers in front of the owner (who like Reacher says nothing). I thought the posh middle-aged Scottish tourist in front-of me was going to come to blows after 10-minutes of trying to get a gormless young man to see sense. She gave up. We almost did too while waiting 10-minutes to be 'shown to ' (pointed to) a menu-less table standing ready and empty. Unfortunately I think more unoccupied tables are in their future, as I will not eat here again."

Such a great find! Trip adviser helped us find this. We newly drove away as it didn’t look open. Best burger and great coffee. Will 100% go back for more.

Best BLT of my life! Amazing sourdough bread with chewy crust you can tell they love making good food. Staff were very helpful with baby high chair, brought it over for us and wiped it down. Thank you!

The food at this restaurant is amazing and the staff is extremely friendly! We visited with a group of 4 friends for brunch and we absolutely loved it! We highly recommend stopping by, as it is not well known so please help spread the word!

Visited this week. Coffee and cakes all good. But we were shocked at having to pay 60p for oat milk, especially as it was for a flat white, which I know from doing barista work, only requires a couple of centimeters of milk in the frothy jug. Rip off.

Excellent! I had the Cubano Hougie which was very tasty. A few different things on the menu and will definitely be back. Took home a chocolate hot cross bun and a cinnamon bun, both really nice. After 1 visit, this may be my favourite Lake District cafe.

Arrived mid morning en route to a butterfly hunt. Modest queue but it soon cleared and the coffee and cheese scones were worth the wait. Beware! The inner WC door has a powerful spring so you might think the loo is occupied when not as the vacant/engaged sign is a bit hard to interpret. W Any negatives? Not really, but if they opened earlier it would be great.

We received a warm and friendly greeting when we entered the restaurant, which was contrary to what a recent review had suggested. Despite it being lunchtime, the atmosphere was pleasant and the decor was contemporary and inviting. There was a wide variety of delectable cakes on display (with a large sign indicating they are gluten-friendly) and the portions were generous enough that we had some leftovers to take home. The prices were reasonable, though the only drawback was that the cappuccino seemed more like a milky coffee. Additionally, the restaurant is dog-friendly.

I am sorry to leave a negative review, as the food tasted delicious, but I have a major issue with the current trend of using thick bread for sandwiches. The sourdough bread was tasty, but it was so thick, including the crusts, that it was difficult to bite into. The filling of the Europe sandwich was flavorful, but it got lost in between the thick slices of bread. My friend ordered soup and bread, but unfortunately, the soup was overly thick and had a slurry-like consistency that solidified in the bowl. This texture took away from the taste of the soup. Additionally, the decaf coffee was terrible, although the regular coffee was good.

"Staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. They were also very kind to our dog. We had drinks and food and though the drinks were good, the food was not. The words 'frozen ' and 'microwave ' were forefront in my mind throughout. The mash potato I had with my pie was face meltingly hot suggesting the microwave was used, and my wife 's battered fish was mushy and watery suggesting it was deep fried from frozen. The batter was also only about 1mm thick and was like wise mushy. The meat in my chunky steak pie was definatly chunky but was a little too firm (not tough, just not tender. Probably the wrong cut of meat rather than badly cooked). I then had the caramel apple pie as did another member of my party. While his was hot, mine was cold. I had mine with cream which when it arrived, had bubbles in and was luke warm. What I think happened was that mine was microwaved first and then drowned in cream and left to sit while the other was microwaved. This mean mine cooled in the cream while the cream warmed. It also meant that the pastry on the bottom went soggy, and from the rest of the pastry, it didn 't seem like it had much crisp to begin with. Now I know that times are hard and pubs like this can 't be expected to make everything from scratch, but there are 3 other pubs close by and unfortunately this one is doing nothing to stand out from the others, in terms of food anyway. Overall, a nice place for a quiet drink, but I 'll not be back for the food. The only saving grace was the price; £80 for 2 rounds of drinks (1 pint, 1 coke and 2 halves per round), 4 mains and 2 desserts...I suppose you get that you pay for though..."
