"We dined here on the last night of our Honeymoon in the Lakes. Unfortunately there was a party, who were old enough to know better, who were loud, abusive towards the staff and demanding their money back. The waitress looked about 18 and was left...in tears by this party, but this didn't stop her from being incredibly attentive to our needs and moving us to a private area away from the disruption. She even offered dinner by candlelight when she found out we were on Honeymoon! Firstly, there are prices on the menu and, secondly, we paid after out meal. My husband had the ribs which were melt in the mouth and the chicken was cooked to perfection. I had the Hake which was incredible- creamy and delicious. We did have to wait a little while for our food, but I've waited longer and the staff were obviously had a difficult night. I do wonder if our experience of the staff had something to do with how well behaved we were as patrons. It goes to show, if you're good to the waiting staff, they'll look after you."

Had nice food with good local IPA. Couldn't fault service. Extremely warm and polite service in nice cosy surroundings. Will definitely call again.

This was our last holiday dinner before going home. The restaurant didn't seem busy but we still waited a long time! The staff was friendly and the food when it arrived excellent, freshly cooked and tasty!

Was busy on a Monday night which is a good sign.Nice welcoming pub with food that was obviously cooked by a chef who knows what he/she is doing.Tasty food nothing fancy and certainly not micro waved.Give it a try.

Mid week visit and it was very quiet, not like the pub we used to visit on a regular basis. As another reviewer comented the Tentant Required sign probably puts people off. We both ordered rib eye steak, but it was very tough and my jaw ached at the end of the meal. However the chips, mushrooms and onion rings with it were good. Hope they get a permanent tenant soon who can improve things.

The Royal Oak offers typical pub food and of a quality which will not disappoint. The highlight of the meal was the apple and celeriac soup. Sounds a bit 'out there ' but it was very pleasant. We followed this with a burger with extra cheese topping, which on close inspection was just about there but not as plentiful as you might expect. To be fair the waiter did take off the cheese supplement. The burger itself was very nice.

please with the meal, service and ambiente. the menu didn't seem to fit what we found on the line. the smoked speckkoffer was good as the meatcake of my wife. the shock came with the price for wein. I expect a premium to be calculated in these difficult times, but 400% on the basis of Tesco prices? I had hoped to make a few visits during my two weeks vacation, but £28 for a bog standard bottle wein has left an acid taste in my mouth and I fear they have lost a customer.

Booked this pub for evening meal three days in advance only to find it in complete darkness when arrived, after getting bus from Grange Over Sands and climbing steep hill to get there. I rang pub from outside to find out what was going on...and wentbto answer phone. I did get call back 5 minutes later to be told by a male, who presumably was landlord or manager that they had to close due to staff holidays and that he didn't know why my booking was taken. He said he checked the diary and could see my reservation. It would have been nice if after checking diary he would have phoned me to say could not accomodate. If you book advise you ring first to check they are actually open! Would give 0 i...

2 years ago we ate twice in this pub and the food was excellent and good value for money. This year we spotted the To Let sign stuck on the pub and made comment that things may not be the same. How right we were! Whitby scampi and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce . Was actually Youngs frozen scampi not properly cooked, in fact I guess it was microwaved (soggy), Batchelors mushy peas (eventually) and just about passable chips. Steak with tomato, mushrooms, onion rings and chips . Best of the three but the onion rings never arrived! Steak and Ale pie with fresh vegetables and chips Microwaved bought in pie (soggy and lukewarm), tinned veg (soggy) and chips. Its so annoying when you reco...

"Staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. They were also very kind to our dog. We had drinks and food and though the drinks were good, the food was not. The words 'frozen ' and 'microwave ' were forefront in my mind throughout. The mash potato I had with my pie was face meltingly hot suggesting the microwave was used, and my wife 's battered fish was mushy and watery suggesting it was deep fried from frozen. The batter was also only about 1mm thick and was like wise mushy. The meat in my chunky steak pie was definatly chunky but was a little too firm (not tough, just not tender. Probably the wrong cut of meat rather than badly cooked). I then had the caramel apple pie as did another member of my party. While his was hot, mine was cold. I had mine with cream which when it arrived, had bubbles in and was luke warm. What I think happened was that mine was microwaved first and then drowned in cream and left to sit while the other was microwaved. This mean mine cooled in the cream while the cream warmed. It also meant that the pastry on the bottom went soggy, and from the rest of the pastry, it didn 't seem like it had much crisp to begin with. Now I know that times are hard and pubs like this can 't be expected to make everything from scratch, but there are 3 other pubs close by and unfortunately this one is doing nothing to stand out from the others, in terms of food anyway. Overall, a nice place for a quiet drink, but I 'll not be back for the food. The only saving grace was the price; £80 for 2 rounds of drinks (1 pint, 1 coke and 2 halves per round), 4 mains and 2 desserts...I suppose you get that you pay for though..."
