"Having moved to Heathfield just a week prior to visiting The Bay Tree for breakfast, we were so happy to find somewhere that does such an incredibly delicious breakfast within walking distance!I’m quite fussy when it comes to Eggs Royale as I often like extras such as mushrooms too and the muffin has to be soft and warm and the eggs perfectly soft boiled and the hollandaise sauce nice and warm making the dish overall of a good temperature..... the lovely lady who took my order was so friendly and accommodating, she listened to how I like Eggs Royale and it actually arrived 10 times better than I’d expected!! The Bay Tree has a lovely community feel and superb food and I would highly recommend this place :"

Popped in here while on a bike ride. Friendly service, good coffee, bacon sandwich and Phil Collins in the background.

Beautifully fresh food and good value. Wish it was on our doorstep! Had the gourmet baguettes with homemade coleslaw and potato salad.

Popped in for a latte, it was very watery which was disappointing and hardly had any milk in it. Quite a few uncleared tables which still weren't cleared when more people arrived.

We recently visited with family members and had a great lunch. It was really crowded, which proves it must be popular. They were busy, but our food was delivered promptly by friendly staff.

Popped in for lunch and enjoyed an excellent cheese and onion toastie with chips and salad. Could not fault the food. Pot of tea lovely and hot. Although busy, still managed the order well. Definitely recommend and will return. Prices are good.

We stopped here en route to a National Trust day out. We were looking forward to a cooked breakfast and the Bay Tree did not disappoint.I had the small cooked breakfast which is plentiful. The sausages are delicious and it was beautifully cooked. My daughter had the eggs benedict with a vegetarian sausage which looked wonderful. We would definitely visit again.

A lovely find. Free parking a 2minute walk away. Situated by a small roundabout. This was our first and not our last visit. We had a breakfast and poached egg on toast, coffee and a tea. Freshly cooked from an open kitchen, well presented with plenty of butter for my toast. Also my eggs were just perfect as I asked for them to be firm. Toilets clean. Good value for money.

A great looking cafe from the outside that failed to impress once inside.Kitchen ran out of chicken at 13:30hrs with one of our orders (Chicken sandwich) so our second order had to be changed to Pulled Pork. The Pulled Pork cheese melt baguette looked great but was bland and without the BBQ sauce drizzled on top, would have offered little taste. The chicken sandwich; bread deeply smothered in butter, was dry and tasteless. By this point we had already returned a cappuccino that looked brilliant with a lovely frothy top but tasted dreadful (burnt). Overall a very disappointing experience.Such a shame.

"Honestly...one of the best pub restaurants I have ever visited! We chose to eat here as it was recommended via Alistair Sawday, and it did not disappoint. The food, atmosphere, hygiene and service were all 5* when we visited last night. We sat inside, by candlelight, and ordered 2 starters (the Rye smoked mackerel with buttercream sauce and the heritage tomato salad and 2 mains (the beef burger with fries and the hake with toasted ciabatta and garden peas . It was truly exquisite! We both cleaned our plates (and we don't usually do that! . My only mild criticism is that I didn't realise the hake dish would include bacon lardons they certainly added to the flavour, but as an ethical pescatarian, this could have ruined the meal for me (I didn't allow it to, but 10 years ago when I was more strict it may have upset me . I may have simply missed this ingredient when reading the menu, and I didn't make the waiting staff aware of my dietary preferences, so I accept this was my fault and not theirs. It's just something for other pescatarians reading this review to be aware of. I have absolute confidence that they would prepare the hake dish without the bacon lardons if you asked. As for me....my boyfriend gleefully took them from my plate and demolished them himself! We also enjoyed a medium glass of wine each my boyfriend (who is very particular loved the tempranillo and I had their Italian pinot grigio. Our entire meal would have been less than £60, but with the current government incentive scheme to eat in, it came to less than £40!! We tipped generously as they truly deserved it. We will 100% be returning and can't advocate them enough."
