"My wife and I were hungry at the Northumberland coast, known for its famous fish and crab sandwiches but lacking in vegan options. We decided to stop in Alnwick and came across The Black Faggot, an old pub with an interesting building that seemed to be popular with the locals. It was around 5pm, and we were lucky to find a table since the place was fully booked later due to reduced capacity during COVID-19. We were pleasantly surprised to find more than one vegan option on the menu. I started with the deep-fried vegan cheese, which was delicious and just the right portion size. Both my wife and I chose the courgetti bolognese (spaghetti bolognese with courgette noodles) for our main course. Both dishes arrived quickly and the service was efficient. The pub had implemented COVID security measures with perspex screens between tables."

Lovely. When we went in we were amazed it is so deceiving from the front. Had to book a table as it is so busy. The meal came with in 10 minutes, huge and piping hot. The beer is excellent and the staff can't do enough for you. Will we be coming back ? Definately.

During our visit to Alnwick, we were looking for a dog-friendly pub and we certainly found one. Our 5-month-old puppy, Teddy, was made to feel very welcome and he loved the tasty treats he was given. The staff were friendly and very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The food we ate was beautifully presented and full of flavor. I would highly recommend the Black **** to anyone visiting Alnwick.

We initially intended to have a Sunday roast at another pub on the street after exploring Alnwick and visiting the gardens. However, they were not serving lunch so we asked for recommendations and were directed to The Black Swan. We are grateful that we ended up at this wonderful place. The service was friendly and efficient, the food was delicious and beautifully presented. The restaurant itself is deceiving from the outside, as it is much larger inside than it appears. It has a fantastic atmosphere, blending traditional charm with a contemporary style. We were impressed with the overall experience and will definitely return and recommend to our friends.

"Drove from Newcastle for a lovely walk in Hulne Park to work up an appetite for the light lunch we had booked at Bari. Temperature taken at the door, all hygiene precautions followed. Social distancing strictly observed, including taking contact details. Soup with a cheddar and mustard scone was delicious. I had sweet potato and leek a combination I would never have thought of, but now may need to make it. Absolutely delicious. The roasted veg was equally delicious, and very filling. The cheese and mustard scones are to die for and huge! Nor do they skimp on the butter, which is always a (not so secret) niggle of mine. Be warned we booked for 1.15pm, and the soup was almost gone. Be early or be disappointed! For those with a sweet tooth, a delicious selection of cakes was on offer and ice cream is locally sourced. The menu includes tasting notes on all the teas on offer, which can also be bought in the little shop. The tea is served complete with tea bag tweezers and disposal container, and an egg timer. Customers are given instructions on the best amount of time to allow for the brewing of their chosen tea. The shop has testing jars so you can smell the teas to aid your purchase. If you are not a tea lover, other drinks, including filter coffee, are available. Perhaps not the best note on which to end, but the hygiene in the loo is amazing. Sanitising wipes are provided so you can clean the essentials after use (and before, if you wish) AND it is twinned with a loo in Africa. A fabulous touch so to speak. I highly recommend Bari for a real tea experience"
