"This review is after a second occasion of a bad experience. Last month, I was in with my friend and my 4 month old who was asleep in her pram… short haired older woman muttered under her breath “why would you bring a pram in”… to which I asked the younger server (who she said it to) was she serious and did she actually just say that… to which it was then denied and she supposedly said “why is she bringing her in” apparently talking about a colleague bringing a friend into dlish later than day… 100% lies though, I know what I heard. And the guilty false niceness that followed from said woman to us spoke volumes about her embarrassment of being caught saying what she said. Went in again at the weekend there and straight away felt the negative vibes from same said woman when I walked in with the pram again…. Didn’t have a booking so said table for 2 plus the pram please. At this point there was about 4 or 5 free tables of 2 or more. She proceeded to tell me that they were fully booked for at least an hour (it was 12pm at this point). I just KNEW she was annoyed I had brought the pram in and was talking rubbish. So I called her bluff and said I was happy to wait. The look on her face said it all. 15 mins passed by, still 3 or 4 of the same tables empty, and another couple without a booking (I overheard) walked in, this is when it got interesting, younger server tells them no problem she will just get a table ready for them… so I gave a glance to which she asked me was I being served, older woman chimes in quite abruptly that I’m waiting because I’ve got the pram, but she’s trying to “sort something” for me…. All of a sudden there’s a magical table for us and at this point easily 40% of the tables are now free in the place… so where did this fully booked for at least an hour nonsense come from, she clearly was just annoyed we were in with the pram. To be honest, other than feeling like we had done something wrong by bringing in a pram, the service was terrible, so slow and as if the girls were hungover and couldn’t be bothered. We were told we could order drinks after 10mins sitting with a menu, but not food because the kitchen was busy (as I said it was 40% free tables)… when the food came (baked potato with cheese and a bowl of lentil soup) there was no side salad, just a semi hard baked potato, no butter on it, with a handful of grated cheese on top whacked on a plate. Overpriced and not worth £1. Lentil soup was nice but so so small for the price. I can assure you we won’t be back. Stand offish vibes and clearly don’t like people with prams going in, and they are happy to make that super obvious."

"If I could give it no stars, I would.due to the attitude of the manager. Total ned! Other staff were lovely, however when we were waiting to be seated, we were ignored. Would have been nice to get acknowledged. It only went downhill after that. Waited more than 50 minutes for a burger and a wrap. I asked if the burger would be big enough for my 10 years old to share as it was nearly £15 and was told yes. The drinks were brought over half an hour before we got our food. When it did come, we were starving and the portions are very small. My wrap was £7 which was fine but there wasn't much more to the burger at over £14. When I went to pay, I didn't leave a tip as the electronic payment method asks if u want to so I told the waitress we had waited 50 minutes and that I felt the portion sizes were very small especially the burger Special. That was all I said. I didn't complain.. I basically passed on my comments. They waitess walked away so I sat and waited on my receipt as I assumed she was getting it. We sat for a few minutes and another member of staff asked if we were finishing up. I explained yes and that I was just waiting on my receipt. She went to get it and that's when the manager marched up with a stinking attitude. She said. . OK what's the problem?? I said no problem, I just commented to the waitress why I wasn't leaving a tip.. to which she butted in and said I didn't need to explain not leaving a tip. I told her we waited 50 minutes and the portions were fairly small and overpriced. She started arguing saying the staff were busy and oing their best and the special is only pennies dearer than a normal burger. Not sure why this is relevant as i still felt it was overpriced. And then something about me not waiting 50 minutes. I said I did wait 50 minutes and asked why she had such an attitude. She said she didn't.. but my goodness she did. It was very uncomfortable and my children had to sit and witness this. She then asked what did I want..a discount? I said no, just my receipt so I could get out of there. In between all of this, my children also witnessed the female chef eating while preparing food ..it really says it all. I would have perhaps revisited had it not been for how the manager spoke to me. I didn't even ask for the manager. So if you wait 50 min for a burger and a chicken wrap and pay £30 for the privilege, don't dare say a word to your waitress after paying or you'll get a dressing down by a major ned head who shouldn't be working in customer service. Absolute vile women."

"Short version – 10/10 Food was wonderful, blown away. Staff were so friendly and offered great service, top notch. Long version: My daughter started working there a few weeks ago. She impressed upon us how good the food was and how they made it all from scratch. She also told us how welcoming and knowledgable all the staff were and how excited she was to work there. My daughter told us about the menu and sounded right up our street. So we booked a table for a Saturday afternoon, to try it out. We don’t really visit Uddingston too often, we live about 10 miles away and have good eateries close by. So hadn’t even seen the restaurant. Easy to get to on the main street and we got parked just round the corner. We got greeted straight away and were seated in a nice table for two at the window. The décor and ambience of the place was very nice. The staff were smily and open which is always a good sign. For starters there was a special of King Scallops, with Asparagus, chorizo and bacon, which I went for and the good lady wife choosing the Chicken and Duck liver parfait with caramelized onion with toasted brioche. The Scallop dish was amazing. I’m going to make the first of 2 comparisons to the ‘Come dine with me’ series. I have had Scallops only twice before and a long time ago, they were nice but that's all I can remember. In ‘Come dine with me’ hosts were forever getting slaughtered for cooking them too long, making them tough. At Smiths I reckon I got them exactly how they were supposed to be cooked. They were tender and succulent, slightly seared and tasty as you would like. Went so swell with the rest of the dish, absolute dynamite. I didn’t get a taste of the wifes parfait (its not my cup of tea) but the good lady scoffed it all with not a crumb left on the dish. She really enjoyed it. My daughter had put forward a recommendation to us to try the blade of beef in particular as that came with the mashed potato that she stated was outstanding. The good lady went for this, I was humming over getting the steak, but hey I have had steak plenty of places and its very specific and cooked on the spot, but wanted to to try something from the main menu. I went for chicken breast which was lightly smoked and roasted, with glazed carrot, roast Thyme gravy and Arran mustard crushed potatoes. Second reference to come dine with me. They always slam the host for the chicken don’t they? Too tough, dried out, or even worse, the dreaded pink. Oh not at Smiths. Wow, eye opener, this is how chicken is supposed to be cooked. Hands down in 52 years on this planet eating solid food, that chicken on Saturday was the best I have ever tasted. It honestly was something else. I need to look at how I cook chicken because it aint like this. The delicate smoky taste through the succulent breast. It was a wonderful sized portion and the potatoes, my ow my, these were outstanding. The mash which I sampled from my Mrs plate was very good, but the Arran mustard crushed variant with spring onions mixed through it – wowee, absolutely splendid. I had a go at the good ladies dish. It was a slow braised feather blade of Scotch beef in a rich red wine jus. Tender as a kiss from an angel, beautiful. Plates scoffed, almost licked clean. For desert the waitress recommended the Vanilla Rice pudding with Rhubarb, apple and ginger crumble topping, as it was her favourite and described it as a ‘warm hug’ and who doesn’t like a warm hug? We were tempted to get two of these, but I fancied trying something else out on the menu, knowing fine well I would be stealing a bit of my ladies ‘warm hug’, so went for the nutella cheesecake with Pistachio ice cream with a raspberry coulis. Wonderful combination it was as well. Fabulous and so delicious. I did have a couple of spoonfuls of the rice crumble dish, this was superb as well. The rice, so creamy, the crumble so tasty. Not a scrap left on any of hour plates on any of the courses. Magical experience and would thoroughly recommend."
