"Arrived on Monday evening on a rainy night. Not very inviting to see scaffolding up and lots of pot holes in car park. Was a little dubious about going in. Still went to see what it was like. Scruffy little place with old fashioned seats and all tables set up for food. Asked the bar maid about food she asked us to sit at a table and i will bring menus over. Lots of choice as well as on board specials. We decided to give it a chance as been told food was good. Went to bar to order martini and lemonade and lime and soda. Lemonade came from a large 2 litre bottle which was last drop which was flat. Ordered sweet and sour chicken and rice, plus gammon and salad. Waited about 20 mins. food served on cold plates. My salad was piled high but had loads of peppers on, cold peas. The sweet and sour chicken was cooked chicken added into a very weak strange tasting sauce. Not very nice at all. The menu advertised desserts but the pictures were cut out puds from some paper or magazine not very inviting. There seem to be very little recent comments about this pub. Yes of course after ordering our food was told only take cash. Signs not very prominent and not told when ordering. Surely all places take cards these days. You really should get a little more up to date with everything to get more customers. Will not be back again."

Great lunch time menu, good portions and reasonably priced. Stuffed hearts mash, vegetable lasagne salad child's chips, sausage beans all good. Soft drinks prices are very good, friendly staff well worth a visit

Used to love this place but the last time we visited the place had gone downhill . Everything looks shabby and tired and the food is just terrible . Over cooked lush . It tastes like canteen food . The chef in stinking chefs whites standing outside smoking continuously doesn't help the place either . The only good thing about this pub now is the cat .

Walking into this restaurant felt a bit like stepping back in time. The car park was full of deep potholes, giving a less-than-ideal first impression. The interior decor seemed a bit outdated, lowering our expectations for a great meal as we were led to our table for Sunday Roast. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the delicious food and excellent service. In the end, it was a great value for the experience.

Superb venue excellent meal, between us we had steak lasagne, hunters chicken, pate, garlic mushrooms and prawn, prawn cocktail, wish we had know how large the meals would be we would have skipped the starters and kept room for dessert. Fabulous home cooked range on offer, staff owners daughter) very attentive and welcoming to us on our first visit. Old charm pub no airs or graces just honest pub full of very nice people can't wait to move closer and make it my local, will bring the family on next visit.

A charming stone-built pub in Blackwood, located just off the main Gellihaf road. The food is excellent, with a talented chef named Russell who serves up a delicious mixed grill. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food. Upon arriving, we were greeted by the friendly bartender, Colin, and asked if they were still serving food. They confirmed that they were, but there would be a bit of a wait. We quickly looked over the menu and decided on a mixed grill and a half-and-half beef madras. Despite the half-hour wait, we ordered our drinks and found a table. The pint of Speckled Hen we had was the best in Blackwood, and only cost £2.80. This place has become my new favorite spot,...

I was staying at a charming B&B nearby and decided to dine at this restaurant on a Wednesday evening at 08:15. The outside appeared bustling and full of potential. A friendly ginger cat lounged by the entrance, adding to the ambiance. I was excited to try the food at this establishment. However, when I inquired about the last orders for food at the bar, the barmaid informed me that they were no longer serving. After expressing my surprise and disappointment, she reluctantly checked and allowed me to place a rushed order for a curry. Unfortunately, when the dish arrived, a fly landed on it, which epitomized my overall experience. In hindsight, I should have just purchased a meal from a superm...

It was a Monday after New Year's Day and I had trouble finding a place for lunch as many places were closed. I give credit to the Coal Hole for being open and serving food. The restaurant was empty when we arrived, and I had been there before but not recently. My aunt ordered bacon, eggs, and chips and said it was fine, but my battered fish and chips tasted like it came straight from the freezer. It was disappointing as I could have easily made a similar meal with Birds Eye fish at home. This was the second time in a week that I had been served frozen fish at a restaurant. I believe that restaurants should consider using fresh fish and homemade batter, even if it means charging a little more...
