"We came here in January and had a fabulous stay really enjoyed it and recommended it to all and sundry. This time, unfortunately, it fell well short of the mark. We stayed overnight. The room was lovely (although REALLY hot we had to leave the door open to get a breeze through whilst we were there), with a comfortable bed and good toiletries. Dinner really disappointed us. We felt extremely rushed. We were expecting to be able to have a lazy meal like we had before. We ordered aperetifs which were served quickly, which is fine. The wine list was then taken away, and we had to ask for it back to order wine with the meal. Within 5 minutes of our orders being taken, our starters arrived. Considering these were expected to be freshly prepared, we felt this was somewhat suspicious. The starters were good, albeit not as amazing as last time. We both ordered cod loin with linguine for mains, and again, within a few minutes of our starters being cleared, our mains arrived, despite us being quite clear we were in no hurry. The main was disappointing to say the least. The cod was well cooked, but the linguine was disappointingly bland. The tempura prawns served with it tasted and looked pre cooked, and not fresh. Again, we were cleared away quick and immediately offered dessert. The range was quite limite, and as we had been given our first two courses so quickly, we felt like we did not have room for dessert. From sitting down to leaving was less than an hour. We were at a bit of a loose end, as this is very much a dining pub with limited bar area, so we walked around the village for a bit and went to bed. The staff were all perfectly pleasant, but unfortunately somewhat ineffectual. We raised concerns and rather than getting any actions, we just got a shrug and sorry . This is so terribly sad, as we really did our previous visit, but for the prices charged, the food quality was well short of the mark. Unfortunately we doubt we will be back."

Extremely disappointed. Grossly overpriced Cannot believe this was presented by a chef. Have been before and wasn’t impressed. Gave them a second chance. Never again.

Service 5 star, ambience 5 star, food 5 star. Will definitely be returning. Steak was cooked to perfection. The fish was so light. The dessert was the best cheekecake ever!

We visited with our friends and had the most beautiful Meal in The Cow , the food was amazing , the staff lovely and friendly and the most delightful setting on the village green , we will definitely visit again Ver carta

First visit for a Sunday lunch with friends. Lovely atmosphere, keen staff, nice pace, pleasant surroundings. The food was excellent and well presented. Would have appreciated a couple of further choices on the menu. Recommended.

We were recently camping in Alton in our caravan and decided to go out for breakfast. Having searched for nearby venues we went to The Cow on the Monday but on arrival found they were full for breakfast. However the manager was great and found us a table followed by a marvellous breakfast. All the food was cooked perfectly and staff very helpful and friendly. Having eaten elsewhere during the week it was by far the best meal we eat. I would like to thank the manager for fitting us in Ver carta

Stayed as part of a business meeting having dinner, then bed and breakfast. Everything about The Cow is spot on. The rooms were beautifully decorated with a great bathroom with powerful and hot shower, and really comfy bed..only gripe was the industrial fan coming on at 7am but ear plugs sorted that! We ate in the restaurant and the food was exceptional, both the evening meal and breakfast were delicious. I must give a special mention to the staff, they were all so friendly and knowledgeable and are a real asset to The Cow. Highly recommend and im now looking for when i can come back with my husband.

Sadly very disappointed. On arrival our table was squashed directly behind a table of 4 so I ask if possible to move, this seemed very inconvenient but they did it I also ordered drinks at the bar while the cutlery was being moved over which they didn't seem to like either. We sat and ordered starters and mains. I had to get up twice for drinks and ask for a wine menu. Starters were OK I suppose, mains were nice enough and the wine was too. As we ordered dessert we were told both choices were no longer available,surely this should of been told when we initially ordered.
