"I visited the restaurant for a Sunday roast and found it quite disappointing. I paid £19 for the beef, which felt extremely overpriced for what I received. In the photo I uploaded, you can see that I had only taken a small bite of the beef and Yorkshire pudding before snapping the picture. The portion sizes were quite small. The cauliflower cheese appeared to be served in a very modest amount, as if it was dished out with a tablespoon. The food itself was decent but nothing memorable. While everything was cooked well, it tasted just like a home-cooked meal, and that's not why I dine out. I would have rated it one star lower if it weren't for the discount I received after sharing my feedback with the staff. One surprising aspect was that only the beef roast comes with a Yorkshire pudding; the chicken roast, priced at £18, did not include one. This seemed quite unreasonable! Unless they revise their prices or increase the portion sizes, I don't see myself returning for a meal. However, I might consider coming back for drinks, which were reasonably priced. Overall, I’d rate the experience as follows: Rooms: 3 Service: 3 Location: 4 "

Visiting the local wine estate, the 8 bells B&B was a perfect choice, only 15 minute walk through the countryside paths to reach the estate. Parking was across the road in the pub carpark. Room was fresh, clean, with a big shower, and roll top bath. Breakfast was across the road in the pub, with choices made the day before. Rooms: 4 Service: 5 Location: 4

We had a wonderful meal to celebrate a birthday and Mother's Day, with a group of seven and a dog. The restaurant offered a great variety of dishes, including roasts. The starters, mains, and desserts were all excellent. The staff were incredibly friendly and efficient. Some special touches included a glass of prosecco for Mom and water and biscuits for our dog. I would definitely recommend visiting this place!

"This was the best meal I have ever eaten. Firstly Ben Wilkinson at the pass is quite a new restaurant and a lot of these reviews are not reflective of this as I believe the restaurant has changed a lot since Covid. It has recently won a Michelin star and the current menu is deserving of this. My wife and I had the 7 course tasting menu which was exquisite. The layout of the restaurant is also carefully thought out with glass surrounding an intimate setting so that you can watch the courses in the kitchen being prepared. Every course is completely unique and is delivered and explained to you by a different chef, who all rotate around the tables which I particularly liked. The food speaks for itself. I won't list every course but the standout was the beef cheek and celeriac. Absolutely divine. The snacks which come before the first course were also out of this world. We didn't opt for the wine pairing but enjoyed quite a few cocktails instead, all which were faultless. The only downside to this is how full we both felt at the end; a very nice problem to have. Having been to other Michelin star restaurants the Pass for me is the best so far, and the chilled out setting I actually prefer to something grander. Overall an exceptional experience that I couldn't recommend highly enough. Vegetarian options: I wouldn't recommend a tasting menu to any vegetarian as it's designed to incorporate a lot of different animal products into a piece of art"

"Don't come here expecting to grab a quick bite and not book.. ..... The Heritage is a place to relax and savour every mouthful of food whilst being looked after by a really friendly team. The restaurant has a good balance of formal and relaxed....the service is attentive but not starchy and uncomfortable. The food is amazing.... We have lived here a long time and have been thankful that Matt and his team arrived and breathed life back into this previously boarded up building with an extraordinary amount of energy. They haven't excluded villagers from going into the bar and having a drink and we often do . It's good to see an eclectic mix of clientelle all there with a common aim...to enjoy a memorable and special dining experience in the beautiful surroundings of the village. Amused by an earlier rather sour review about twitching curtains in the village we feel compelled to say that the Heritage has brought a rather more considerate visitor that is careful not to block driveways and generally respect the pretty surroundings. We also know getting accidentally stuck up a road that turns into a bridleway can be stressful.....my husband has on occasions reversed the odd car down for a bewildered visitor because it can get a bit tight if there happens to be a wedding at the church. Just leave a little time for the whole dining experience......No one rushes you out of your seat and the table is yours for the evening. It is well worth coming ."

"I detest this place, avoid! They first ruined an anniversary and now twice ruined lunch. I will never go again and broken silence so you are spared the overpriced, bland food and the poor, POOR waiting service. See my other reviews, they 're rarely this negative. Firstly, the check in desk is a dark and dismal cubby hole with barely a sideboard to rest an arm. The ceilings are so low, maybe this represents an oppressive atmosphere the staff suffer. There is always some smug person at front desk with an ugly, garish shirt bearing down on the uniformed team. Do they employ them young or foreign so they don 't have to pay them very well? The Kitchen appear to actively victimise anyone with an intolerance. Yes, they list every single allergen on the photocopied menu but make no effort to find an alternative for you, merely pointing out that you can 't eat it. I asked for crackers once, instead of bread, and was told, we have party poppers?! This time I was told I could have (from a paultry selection) a Naked burger, which sounded great, but actually meant it arrived without any bun charging me the same price. The worst part, and this has never changed, they regularly interrupt your conversation mid sentence, clearly they think the waiter 's time or the food is more important! This time he tried to warble his way through the menu but did it standing right in front of the sun so both my business guest and I were blinded asking him to move. Overall £80 for a burger and chips with a couple of cokes was laughable. Save your money and go to the Talbot in the village or even better the Gingerman in Brighton at least they value their customers and don 't sneer down their noses because they once had a Michelin star....I wonder why Ockenden lost it??!!!t"
