"So we were really excited to go and try the Sunday carvery since the refurb and was unable to book a table for a few weeks so was happy when we managed to get one. We got down to the restaurant for 6:30 and we were the only ones in the restaurant. There were no staff at the carvery and no one to welcome us or tell us where to sit. After about 20 minutes of us aimlessly looking at menus a lady came over and asked if we had been spoken to yet. She then told us that the carvery finished in 20 minutes so we would need to hurry up and order. My partner then had the reduced Sunday menu as he didn’t fancy a carvery only to be told that half of the already reduced menu wasn’t actually available I then go up to the carvery and waited 5 minutes for someone to turn up, they then said that I’d need a carvery ticket. I told them our table number and said we had paid for an extra Yorkshire etc. she then went off to check with the bar staff I then got served two pieces of Turkey (it was actually nice) and then one Yorkshire. When I told the lady I paid for an extra one she told me she only gives out extras with the large dinner but as I was her last person I could have one. All the other food on the carvery was horrrible and shockingly poor quality. Maybe it was the time of day we went however they should not allow people to book tables at 6:30 if the food quality is going to be that bad. The food had clearly been left there since the carvery started and not refreshed. The vegetables were cold and mushy and congealed at the bottom of the pan, the gravy was lumpy with chunks of bisto in it and was awful (and I’m a gravy lover) the peas were rock hard, the stuffin was freezing cold and raw, and the parsnips were soggy. My partner ordered a burger and chips and the chips were cold, hard and inedible and then the burger looked like a rustlers burger. It was horrendous. We left most of our dinner and went home and cooked something. As the roast dinner made me heave after a few spoonfuls of eating it. Another table walked in after us and had the same experience and actually came to our table and asked if we had ordered the carvery and what we thought of it as they couldn’t believe how awful it was Honestly so disappointed as we had been driving past this pub for months waiting for a free Sunday to try it out!"

Stopped off for some food and was not disappointing Services was excellent as was the food. Excellent quality food and since having a spruce up it’s a very nice environment. Highly recommend.

Today was my second visit for lunch and I have to say on both occasions I found it to be excellent. The food was prepared fresh and came steaming hot and good portion size, and there is a good selection of food and drinks for all tastes and appetites. The staff are lovely and the service was very good. I will go back. Thoroughly recommend

The manager was absolutely fantastic and nothing was a problem. We have a few allergies in our family and both the manager and the lady at the carvery knew what they were talking about. Your manager even found some dessert for my little boy who couldn’t have anything off the menu. The only thing I could say to improve on was to have some gluten free gravy available for the carvery. Dropped in on the off chance and was glad I did. Was told about a 40 minute wait for food. Had cheesy garlic bread to start followed by 5oz surf and turf. Scampi just very slightly overcooked but the steak was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. Finished off with a Cadbury Lovers' Sundae which was lovely. Will definitely come here again. Good food and cost is very reasonable as well.

We discovered this Gem a few months ago and are now regular visitors for the Sunday carvery ,which is the best I have tasted for many years. We came as strangers and now leave as friends. FOOD: The Carvery. There is Turkey, Gammon and Beef Roasts on offer and all cooked to perfection. There is a good selection of at least 5 vegetables, the Cauliflower cheese and the Parsnips are to die for .If you do not wish to have carvery there is a food menu available. AMBIENCE: The George has recently undergone a refurb and it has lifted to pub up to another level. The Restaurant is is separated from the bar by a corridor.
