"We’ve been visiting the Oak Inn at least once a year since 2009 and have a had good but sometimes mixed experiences. Occasionally the service would be a bit off or the food slightly disappointing for the price. But we went for dinner last week after a long hike and I’ve got to say it was easily the best meal we’ve had there. Really friendly and relaxed staff (they even let us sample a few wines as we couldn’t decide what to order) and the food was excellent quality; scallops were spot on, fish mains were perfectly cooked. Dessert delicious. Well done!"

Great food, credit to the chef and a cozy, warm environment. Wait staff a little slow with processing orders/service though

beautiful old pub straight from the beaten stretch, excellent choice of the beer. it was not to eat, but would not have hesitate to refresh, we tried lunch as a stop on the round. fantastic eating and service.

Great stop if you're doing one the national cycling routes through the forest. You have a choice of internal or external seating, both with a family friendly atmosphere. Food is great compared with the standard in the area.

Lovely old pub just off the beaten track, excellent choice of beer. Didn't get to eat on this occasion but would have no hesitation in going back. Update, we tried the lunch as a stop on the circular walk. Fantastic food and service.

beautiful pub in the new forest. my man and I visited back in December 2021 and really had the best fishing and chips of all time! we were for fish and chips around the country on many coastlines and that was the hit to far. I am happy to visit them again and try the rest of the menu.

the environment is beautiful and the gas house itself is so welcoming and full of character. the staff was friendly, efficient and helpful, always full of smiles. eating was amazing, we did mains and dessert and enjoyed every moment! we could also tap a card that is a real plus for me. I would go back!

the evening dinner here in the first night the new forest break over the new years and was probably the best meal we had there. really nice local pub with a log fire etc., fabulous ambiente. eating itself was amazing, with the game cake (main course) especially amazing. they even brought us a plate of extra bratkartoffeln and veg, which was a nice note, and gave us a mint cake as we were gone. the staff was great and helpful. really recommend.

"My Wife and I don't travel so well these days but decided to go a little further afield from our usual Highcliffe and Christchurch haunts we live in Mudeford. We went twice in point of fact. The first visit was the 21st June when My wife and I had a quiet Birthday celebration lunch prior to the Family celebration later in the day. It was excellent. We only had the Mains and despite it being busy and not having booked we were served promptly and cheerfully with a round of drinks. My Wife had Chicken Pie and I had Liver and Bacon. Both were excellent and my Wifes vegetables were freshly done. I don't have vegetables. We liked it so much we went back three days later to celebrate our youngest Daughters birthday and again had lunch before the Family celebration later in the day. The meal was as fabulous as three days prior. My Wife had a Chicken Roast, our Daughter had Beef Roast and I had an amazingly well filled Steak and Merlot Pie of the Week. As before the vegetables were freshly done. Unusually for us we also had puddings (Lemon Meringue, Bailey's Cheescake and Apple Tart with Custard. All were excellent. All washed down with Tea and a Latte the former being served in nicely twee Teapots. Total cost £80 for the three of us on the second visit. Worth every penny. All in all First Class and couldn't fault it. Disabled parking nicely located in the front with ample parking for those more mobile at the side and back. Just a note for History buffs. The main building was built in 1853 by John Harrison(? a Carpenter thus the name Carpenters Arms."
