"Couples visit for a birthday on a quiet Wednesday evening. Was hoping for a great meal as it 's the first time we 've managed to get out since having a baby 3 weeks ago and organising childcare etc is always tough. 10mins after ordering we were told the starter that was labelled 'Gluten Free ' isn 't actually gluten free and was mislabelled on the menu so my partner had to change her order which of course is disappointment. Concerning as this was only caught as our waitress double checked with the chef. I had ordered bread and olives for starter however only the the bread was brought out until the manager noticed I was missing the olives, oil, vinegar and side plates. They had also brought my 'half starter ' out without my partner having anything brought out. The mains were prompt and tasty albeit very expensive for the steak. The wait staff were uncommunicative and apart from the manager seemed oblivious to our issues. Disappointed that nothing was taken off the bill and there was even the default 10% service charge added! Not one to kick up a fuss but won 't be returning."

"The perfect stopover! I commute across the M4 frequently, and was forever fed up with the noisy services at Membury and Chieveley. Just 5-8 minutes from Junction 13, I can guarantee it's an infinitely, nicer, quieter and more tasty stopover! The staff are absolutely delightful, (as well as being situated in the beautiful village of Yattendon, if you fancy a walk around), deliciously well made coffee, cakes, sandwiches and cooked breakfasts, and plenty of easy parking. It's also dog friendly, vegan and gluten free friendly, and provides all alternative milks. Highly recommend!!!"

"I’ve grown up in the area and we’ve explored and eaten at the best Berkshire and surrounding has to offer. We’ve never left a Sunday lunch so happy. Party of 3 plus 1 giant dog. Where to start? An extremely dog friendly pub who went above and beyond to welcome and accommodate. The food? Exceptional. Brilliant starters, mains and dessert. Great wine recommendation. Lobster is a risky choice if unfamiliar with the restaurant .. but I risked it .. and can safely say it was cooked as well as any I’ve had at a top seafood joint; fresh (as promised and like butter. The others thoroughly enjoyed their roast beef. Not a clean plate. The landlady/manager who is clearly just born to do the job is all round brilliant. My highlight? The dog. She didn’t bat an eyelid when I asked for some chicken and beef; she brought roast beef and a sliced chicken breast beautifully presented on a plate (I tried the chicken convinced something must be **** somewhere but no .. chicken breast like the lobster soft as butter . Landlady then reappeared with dog ice cream. Honestly Bladebone whatever it is you’re doing keep doing it! We couldn’t fault a single thing (we’ll be back to try!! ."

"When we arrived, we tried to make a reservation but couldn't get through by phone. Fortunately, there was no problem getting a table as it was surprisingly quiet for a Friday night. We ordered four venison dishes and two duck dishes, which soon arrived. Unfortunately, all of the venison meals were cold, including the mashed potatoes. We spoke to our waitress about this, and she assured us she would take care of it. The dishes came back, and as we dug in again, we found they were still lukewarm. The venison itself was tougher than I remembered from my previous visit. I mentioned this to our waitress, and in response, we received some complimentary French fries, which the kids loved and were hot—unlike the mashed potatoes. To her credit, the waitress apologized again and mentioned that to make up for the cold venison and mash, she had arranged free desserts for all of us, which was a nice touch. The desserts were delightful; the ice cream profiteroles were a hit with both the kids and the adults. The meal would have easily earned five stars if the main courses had been hot. It’s disappointing because I truly enjoy the location and the home-cooked quality of the food. I hope my experience was just a fluke, but with the current challenges facing restaurants, it's essential to be consistently at your best. Everyone is feeling the pinch these days, and a negative experience could prevent us from returning."

"I don't even know where to begin... The first time we visited this restaurant was during a music night with friends in the first week of new management. After reading some negative reviews, I was a bit hesitant, but the place was packed, the music was great, and the food was amazing. It was delicious, plentiful, and had a wide variety of choices. Due to Covid, we didn't return until recently. My husband surprised me with lunch one Sunday after I had been working in the morning. The staff and manager were super friendly and accommodating. The menu was excellent. The first week, I tried the vegetarian option, a pie with roast potatoes and vegetables, that was bursting with flavor and the best vegetarian pie I have ever had, washed down with a pint. The following Sunday, we returned for a traditional roast beef "proper Sunday lunch," as my husband called it. The portion was huge, the roast beef was tender, the Yorkshire pudding was huge, and the roasted vegetables were the best I've ever had. It was a perfect way to end a busy Sunday morning. I look forward to many more visits and thank the staff and management for taking care of us. Definitely worth a visit, especially for breakfast. The vegetarian options are tasty, well-presented, generous portions, and reasonably priced."
