"Visited with a few friends as part of a dinner club. Lovely setting with a great ambience and welcoming staff. This is a restaurant that is clearly living in the shadow of its AA Rosette and is charging obscene prices for what I would class as average food. Pork Belly was the starter and to say it was unimaginative would be an understatement. A chewy section of pork belly was accompanied with a berry style compote and decorative swirl of mashed potato. If you’re after a crispy piece of pork crackling and a succulent layer of fatty pork meat then you’ll be disappointed. Instead you’ll be welcomed with a chewy section of pork that hadn’t been cooked low and slow, failing to render the fat and crisp the skin. The table then had mains of a burger and steak. The burger, whilst averagely priced these days, tasted okay and was well accompanied with classic burger dressings such as a slice of gherkin and some burger sauce. With it you get a poorly sized portion of chips that leaves you wanting, contributing to a very lacklustre plate of food. A small section of dressed salad leaves wouldn’t go amiss here to make the plate more presentable. The steak was a poorly selected cut of meat that for a whopping great sum of £32.50 left a lot to be desired. The chefs ability to perfectly cook this to the desired taste adds nothing if the cut is poor and the table found themselves with chewy sirloin steaks that were not on par with the fee demanded. Accompaniments are aplenty but if you want the privilege of adding a sauce you need to add another £4 to the price of an already expensive steak. The whiskey sauce was nothing more than a bland, off coloured bechamel with no taste of whiskey or mustard coming through. Certainly not a plate worth just shy of £40. The overall impression of the first two courses left the table in a position where nobody wanted any dessert out of fear it wouldn’t deliver. The staff and ambience are great but the food failed to deliver on this occasion. A shame for a restaurant that displays its AA rosettes with pride. The AA rosette clearly isn’t what it used to be."

Over cooked and over priced so very disappointing. Portions were small. I’m not sure what this restaurant is trying to be

during a golftrip to the Scottish Highlands we and another couple stayed 6 nights at The Old Mill Inn and we had 3 dinners at the Hearth restaurant. Each meal was an excellent experience: the dishes were beautifully presented and the influences from different cuisines are used in a refined and harmonious way. Last but not least Sophie and David are exceptional hosts

I went to Hearth, the restaurant at the Old Mill Inn, for dinner this week and I have to say I was very impressed! The setting was lovely, the meal was delicious, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The service was excellent, efficient yet personal. We even received some recommendations for places to visit in Moray. When we travel up north again, we will definitely make sure to stop by Hearth again!

My wife and I frequently visit this restaurant in the area, as it has become our favorite spot. The atmosphere is quirky, cozy, and relaxed, with great attention to detail. The food is delicious and creatively presented, and the service is flawless. We always feel warmly welcomed when we arrive. We are looking forward to returning and want to thank David, Sophie, and the team for always making our evening special and memorable. Ver carta

This restaurant blew us away. Everything was simple, elegant, understated and then WHAM! the food came and we were amazed. My husband had the wood pigeon and hake…exquisitely plated and such well balance components for each plate. I almost don’t want to write this as then everyone will know about this amazing and special spot….but they deserve all the recognition and visitors! Definitely get a booking ahead of time or you won’t get into this hidden gem

We have been meaning to leave David and Sophie a review for a while now as we often visit The Hearth as a family. The service is always fantastically welcoming and makes the experience extremely comfortable and enjoyable. Then there is the food... its a wonderful representation of our local larder in the north of Scotland and despite several visits there is always something new and exciting on the menu to choose from. Besides the food there's a vast selection of quality drinks and not to mention some tasty cocktails. From start to finish its a truly exceptional experience and we all look forward to our next delicious meal.

During our family vacation in Scotland, we stumbled upon the Old Mill Inn and decided to dine at Hearth. Let me tell you, it turned out to be an absolute gem! Sophie and David welcomed us with open arms, making us feel right at home. They were incredibly accommodating, even with our requests, and that meant a lot to us. The place had a cozy vibe, and the food was simply top-notch. Every dish, from the fresh bread rolls to the perfectly cooked monkfish, was a delight. And that venison burger with haggis? Oh, it hit the spot. What stood out most was the genuine care Sophie and David showed to all their guests. It wasn't just us; they treated everyone with warmth and kindness. We're definitely... We stayed three nights, two of them with my niece and her husband, both Londoners with pretty developed experience and taste in matters of travel and food. We all loved the place and the warm welcome and thoughtful attention. Our rooms were nice, the beds very comfortable. The breakfasts are a winner, with three lovely choices, each a great way to start. For us, though, the star was the night we celebrated my wife Jeanne’s 81st birthday with a special dinner. The food was fabulous, with the vegetarian among us beautifully catered to and all of it from starters to dessert top class ... the chefs here are seriously good. The family treated us to a bottle of really good champagne which launched...

We were thrilled to dine at Hearth again on Friday evening and were greeted warmly. We had a tough time deciding on our meal as everything on the menu looked delicious. My husband chose the Trout with trout mousse, potato salad, and pickled cucumber, and he said it was delightful. I opted for the belly pork, which was sweet, juicy, and crispy, served with buttery mash and a delicious redcurrant glaze. For our main courses, we chose two favorites: the Biriyani Arancini with coconut curry sauce and crispy potatoes with salsa, and the Roe and Red Deer with a unique blueberry and bramble sauce with a hint of dark chocolate. We were quite full by this point, but decided to indulge in dessert. The...

"Genuinely couldn't fault the experience. When I heard that the Drouthy had a new menu focusing more on a veggie and vegan base, I knew I had to give it a whirl. The starter of hot Smoked salmon with lemon creme fraiche and oatcakes was simple yet packed full of flavour. I could have easily have had 10 plates of that and been happy to give it 5 stars. My partner had the smoked duck and even though I have given up meat, I was salivating at the look of their dish. They assure me that it was as delicious as it looked. Served with lavender roasted potatoes (which I'm told were amazing and charred salsify. The mains were more than a match for the brilliant starters. If I could give one piece of advice, it would be get the beetroot risotto. Not being a massive fan of beetroot, I wasn't too sure about it. But the incredibly warm waiter (for my son's, I never got his name. I only hope he can forgive me if he reads this! assured me it was tasty. He was not wrong. Beautifully cooked vegan risotto with balsamic beetroot chunks, shiitake mushrooms and rocket, it was simply divine. WHEN I go back, I'll be hard pressed to go for anything else because it was so delicious. It was creamy, packed full of flavour and cooked absolutely perfectly. Just the right amount of bite, nowhere near being mush like you get in a lot of other places (who charge a lot more, by the way . Superb. The highest of compliments to the chef. I was so taken by my dish I forgot to ask how my partner's was until I had eaten all of mine. But their home made vegan tagliatelle had disappeared from the plate so it must have been amazing. I couldn't handle dessert so had a delicious ruby port (delaforce I think it was called , and I would also like to give credit to whoever came up with their wine list. It covered every single base and no-one could ever be disappointed. Finally, if you're ever in Elgin, please make sure this is one of your destinations. You will leave extremely happy."
