"The food was mediocre and disappointing. The turkey and pheasant dishes we ordered were not what we expected, as the meat was pulled and fried to a crisp. The service was also lacking, with the young wait staff being pleasant, but the full-time managers being indifferent and uninterested. The restaurant played loud pop music, which was odd for a country inn, and they refused to put the dining bill on the room bill. Breakfast was also a letdown, with a limited continental offering and a subpar cooked breakfast. The manager's response to our concerns about the flies was dismissive and unapologetic. Despite the convenient location and the nicely decorated building, we felt that we overpaid for our stay and were disappointed by the overall experience. If you have low expectations and are okay with a basic hostel-like experience, you may not be as disappointed. It's a shame, as this place has the potential to be much better."

Second time visited for Sunday lunch and once again excellent food and service. The curry was outstanding and starter’s excellent, service very good even though all tables were busy. Notice reviews complaining about the cost of drinks it’s no different from most of the places in the area. Keep up the great work

Lots of places just tolerate dogs but here they are made to feel very welcome. The staff are amazing, they ask the name of your dog and offer treats and a fuss. Monty can be a bit excitable until he settles but the staff made us feel ok about that. The food was lovely and the room was clean and spacious with plenty of quality tea, coffee etc provided. Toiletries were Bath House, which we love. We really enjoyed our stay, thanks to all for making it both fun and relaxing.

After finishing our main courses, we waited a long time for the plates to be cleared, as various staff members walked past our table without acknowledging the dirty dishes. By the time our plates were finally cleared, we decided to skip dessert and grab something on the way home instead. It's a shame that the restaurant's excellent food was overshadowed by the subpar service, which ultimately led us to not order more drinks or desserts and consider not returning in the future.

After having been stuck in standstill traffic with the motorway closed for an accident hope all were ok) adding to a very long journey, we were met by such warmth and such a friendly team at this place it immediately soothed the travel. The room was fabulous, super spacious and comfy and our dogs were welcomed and tolerated. Gorgeous bathroom . Details to comfort was fab , my only moan would be the large extraction fan for the kitchens which is noisy but that finishes early and started in the morning late enough

I visited this restaurant for their 2-course Sunday lunch and I must say, the service was great and the food was excellent. I ordered the roast beef and it was cooked perfectly, melting in my mouth. The vegetables and cauliflower cheese were fantastic and the gravy had a delicious meaty flavor. The Yorkshire pudding was large and the perfect consistency. For dessert, we had sticky toffee pudding which was also a generous portion and tasted delicious. We left feeling completely full and satisfied. We will definitely be returning.

Dropped in for lunch as our previous visits had been wonderful. Not this time however. Upon entry we were told by a member of staff that there was no room due to staff being off sick, which is fine, It happens and you go somewhere else, not an issue. However when informing customers its best not to be condescending, snooty and look down your nose at them. For what?, having the audacity to fancy some lunch?. And to whatever pithy response the management dole out via this review, save it. We will not be back thanks, we are clearly not the type of people your staff want.

Would willingly have paid more for a wonderful meal. We were looked after as long lost friends by Sophia sand the rest of the staff. I have travelled all over this country and frequently try different establishments curry but NEVER have my tastebuds been so blessed. If I didn’t have a little nam bread left I would have risked licking out the bowl so as not to miss a drop. Chef knows how to produce the best curry in the land. My wife was extremely pleased with her steak and ale pie and we both commented on how well the beef had been cooked to perfection. Five stars is too small a number to give the Plough inn and ten looks to small as well. Well done everyone. Thanks for a wonderful evening.

We were on our way to Dalton In Furness as we found it impossible to find anywhere safe to park in Kirby Lonsdale, we happened to see the Plough and pulled in on the off chance we could have a light lunch. On our entering we were made to feel very welcome and shown to a table. We did not order any alcoholic drinks as we were driving. I asked for a pot of tea and my wife had fresh orange,we both ordered sandwiches, I had the pulled pork and my wife had smoked salmon on ciabatta with a side order of chips. The drinks and food were fresh and tasty and the chips were exceptional. Should we be in the area again we would have no hesitation in visiting. PS we also purchased a hand crafted walking s...

"Staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. They were also very kind to our dog. We had drinks and food and though the drinks were good, the food was not. The words 'frozen ' and 'microwave ' were forefront in my mind throughout. The mash potato I had with my pie was face meltingly hot suggesting the microwave was used, and my wife 's battered fish was mushy and watery suggesting it was deep fried from frozen. The batter was also only about 1mm thick and was like wise mushy. The meat in my chunky steak pie was definatly chunky but was a little too firm (not tough, just not tender. Probably the wrong cut of meat rather than badly cooked). I then had the caramel apple pie as did another member of my party. While his was hot, mine was cold. I had mine with cream which when it arrived, had bubbles in and was luke warm. What I think happened was that mine was microwaved first and then drowned in cream and left to sit while the other was microwaved. This mean mine cooled in the cream while the cream warmed. It also meant that the pastry on the bottom went soggy, and from the rest of the pastry, it didn 't seem like it had much crisp to begin with. Now I know that times are hard and pubs like this can 't be expected to make everything from scratch, but there are 3 other pubs close by and unfortunately this one is doing nothing to stand out from the others, in terms of food anyway. Overall, a nice place for a quiet drink, but I 'll not be back for the food. The only saving grace was the price; £80 for 2 rounds of drinks (1 pint, 1 coke and 2 halves per round), 4 mains and 2 desserts...I suppose you get that you pay for though..."
