"I Went for a meal for my daughters birthday, I am a celiac and checked with staff the items I ordered were definitely gluten free, I have been here before and had no issues, but Unfortunately this time 2 hours after the meal, I was getting the usual tell tale symptoms of gluten poisoning and was soon extremely ill. I phoned the manager the next day and also spoke with the chef, and although both were very apologetic, we’re both very certain I had in no way consumed gluten from them. I hadn’t eaten anywhere else that day and have been a celiac for over 25 years so know when I have ingested gluten, and know the symptoms always start at 2 hours after eating it. Had the manager and chef been a bit more open to the chance that some sort of cross contamination must have occurred I would have given the place another chance, very carefully I must add. But as both manager and chef were adamant it wasn’t their food that had poisoned me, I’m afraid all trust has been lost and I will unfortunately not be able to return"

Overall a lovely experience. Service was excellent and the food was amazing. We were in the back and a little cold but that won't stop us from returning next time we are up in Carlisle.

large eating, large portions, very tasty cauliflower cheese. efficient and friendly staff. the candy starter, after the head of the roast and lamb, we had no place for a pudding. we will go back.

The Plough is a really nice country pub with a good choice of food. The luxury fish pie was very tasty and I would recommend it. The staff were friendly and helpful. Reasonably priced for the quality of food.

Found this pub on a whim and I’m really glad we did. Service was brilliant and really quick but there was still enough time between each course to have a drink and relax. The pub itself is beautiful inside and the food was amazing and great quality. Really made our day finding this place and will definitely be coming back.
