"Table booked for 12.30pm. Wanted an early lunch as a few of us were travelling home afterwards. Arrived at 12.15 Got seated quite quickly ordered straight away. At 1.30pm we asked how much longer it was likely to be only to be told it...would probably be at least another 20mins as there was a large party of 20 in. Funnily enough, people that arrived after us were all being served. At 2pm we were told it was going to be another 15-20 mins. After much gnashing of teeth, our food finally arrived; just warm enough to be edible, certainly not hot Advice to management: Look at the amount of bookings you have employ the right number of staff who can cope with demand. If this is not possible, don’t take as many bookings Please make sure the food all comes out at the same time on hot plates it’s warm enough to eat. Folk don’t appreciate food being sat waiting on cold plates while the rest of the order is prepared"

Dog-friendly eatery with happy staff. Unfortunately spoiled by dry over cooked steak which was the same on my last visit. So choose something easy to heat up like cake or curry.

Not been our for Sunday Lunch in ages but today went to Poppy and Pint. Everything was fantastic- tender meat, vegetables cooked to perfection… just perfect. Thank you Poppy and Pint.

Popped in for lunch, didn’t need to book, felt really safe with table service although we found the App menu a little difficult to navigate, but it was our first time there for many months, friendly staff as always and lovely food! we Shall return!

Excellent service for food and drinks. Cannot recommend this pub enough. I’ve been sheltering during lockdown and was nervous about retiring to a pub but I should have realised we’d be in safe hands here. We receive wonderful service every Friday night Ver carta

Great food, wonderful beer and lovely venue. Had the best roast beef dinner ever. The chicken starter in a Vietnamese tomato sauce was sensational. The presentation and service were delightful. A wonderful experience. Well done all at the Poppy and Pint. David Jones

A group of friends booked a table for 6. We hadn’t realised Forest were at home that night meaning there were no car parking spaces and the local roads barely passable with terrible parking. After 30 minutes driving around we gave up. My rating is...based on not being able to get out of the car and not a reflection of the pub. Ver carta

Coming out of lockdown, we booked a table for a few Sunday afternoon beers. I say that we managed to mess up the booking, so the staff had no record of it. Fortunately, they were very accommodating and managed to find us a table...despite it being rather busy. Very COVID safe, great beer selection and a friendly atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Two of us went here for lunch. Placed an order at the bar a falafel wrap and a cauliflower curry. Not rocket science. Simples. Sat down, waited an hour.......asked the waitress where the food was, she went to check and told us that our...order was behind 2 more people. From ordering and paying for a wrap and a microwaved curry, it took 80 minutes to arrive to the table! Basically I think they had forgotten about us or maybe our order didnt go through to the kitchen from the till? Food arrived, mediocre and luke warm. Left half of it. No real apology, offer of a discount or a offer of a free glass of water. Nothing. It was a case of accept that your 80 minute long luke warm wrap and microwave...

"We live about 25 miles from East Bridgford and have friends who live nearby and also in Newark on Trent, and have once previously called in to the Royal Oak for a drink. Today however we had lunch with our friends and it was absolutely marvellous. I had reviewed the menu beforehand and it looked good but I was expecting decent pub fare. My expectations were exceeded. The meals we enjoyed were superb restaurant quality and tasted delicious. This marvellous food was matched with friendly relaxed and happy service which always makes a good meal go very well. I had a lovely light starter of three types of beetroot with goats cheese in a light dressing which was fresh and very, very tasty. To follow, I chose a smoked haddock with green beans in a mustard cream sauce which perfectly cooked and was better than delicious. It was sublime. (It’s normally served with new potatoes but I am avoiding potatoes . My friends variously enjoyed tempura king prawns with chilli dip, braised lamb with mashed potato, steak and ale pie, and fish and chips and one even made it to a sticky toffee pudding finale. Everything was enjoyed. The invisible team in the kitchen deserve 11/10 for the food offer and the full Royal Oak team get five stars+ from us for the whole experience. We will be back. (PS. I’m going to try and recreate that smoked haddock dish at home Any tips on the mustard sauce?"

"I'll start with the positives. The interaction I had on Facebook to book a table, and then change the booking, was very positive. The two young waitresses who served us were great. The pub is shabby with rubbish and cigarette butts scattered outside the door...and a smell of smoke in the doorway. The décor is tired and tatty, and the bench seat in the restaurant area has a big split in it. The floor of the restaurant had bits of food and other rubbish on it. The salt and pepper and vinegar bottle didn't look like they'd been cleaned for a few days. The food was uninspiring, and mostly overcooked. The Yorkshire puddings were burnt black and were mostly inedible (when we commented on this, the waitress said she was too scared of the chef to say anything to him). The roast potatoes were hard and tough. The vegetables (not enough for 6 of us from one dish) were not great and the cauliflower cheese was the most uninspiring I've had for a long time. The lamb was OK, but that's all I can say about it. The whole menu (apart from a goat's cheese salad) was dull and unimaginative, even allowing for the fact that for Sunday lunch on Mother's Day most people want roasts. We didn't bother staying to have desserts. I thought from the TripAdvisor reviews that we were going to a gastropub, or a pub with a super restaurant. It was like having a meal in a pub 30 years ago, which is fine if that's what you want. It was a dreadful experience and not at all the way we wanted to celebrate my son's birthday and Mother's Day. We will not go back again."
