"This pub was a convenient place when in the area for an early tea, when there were little other places to eat around. Although the service was efficient, and staff friendly and helpful (the chef was very kind in checking if I was vegan /vegetarian and accommodated me with ease with the extra bits on the burger) however the food was nothing spectacular worth rushing back for but simple pub grub that did the job. The menu had a range of foods on the board, although limited for vegetarians, and there was a specials board worth checking out too. We had the vegan burger with chips and salad and the specials hot dogs, both of which were plentiful portions and served fresh and hot. We noted this pub had been shown on tv ‘4 in a bed’ programme. The pub seemed quiet when we arrived and customers appeared to be local or staying in the hotel."

Had an evening meal, whitebait and squid starters, lamb shank and rump steak mains. Food was spot on. Could have done with some background music. Way too quiet.

This evening had a meal at The Quay Inn, Minehead. Very friendly welcome, great Jail ale and really good food. Welcoming and home made gravy, what’s not to like.

Food was terrible over cooked tough meat, bottom of fryer chips… could say lots more! Avoid we looked enviously at a couple who walked and then walked out. Wish we had done the same. Over priced too.

This establishment is in a state of disrepair, with peeling paint, decaying doors, plants sprouting from the guttering, dirty rooms, and broken furniture on the balcony that renders it unusable. The landlady is extremely rude. Anyone considering booking this place for a holiday should reconsider, as it is in very poor condition.

One of the worst toilets I’ve been in, doesn’t look like it’s been cleaned in months, dust around the skirting boards and mid level, strong smell of urine even at 2pm,Cob webs all around the bar area DO YOU EMPLOY A CLEANER??? If so sack them. How this won four in a bed I don’t know, if the rooms are as bad as the pub then don’t stay here.

Enjoyed our 3 night stay in the family rooms. Very comfy beds. Amazing views from the balcony! Breakfast was really good plentiful, nothing too much trouble for the staff, who were happy to accommodate all our different preferences. We also had our evening meal in their restaurant, good variety of food for all tastes. I particularly enjoyed the fish chips.

We just got home and watched the Four in a Bed programme. We were very shocked to see how lovely and friendly the owner was on TV, but she was nothing like that in reality. My mother and I couldn't believe how unfriendly, unwelcoming and how disinterested she was. I felt guilty for being there, like I was an annoyance for my presence. She'd be better off working behind the scenes and letting the young waitress run the place.

The George Inn

The George Inn

"Yet again we needed to celebrate having resolved a long standing technical problem. The pub in Brompton Regis came up in discussion the evening before when our neighbour was around for a glass of wine. He said that before coming to our village he’d looked at houses in Brompton Regis. He left and we booked a table. Friday was a damp day but we were not deterred as we drove up into the Brendon Hills, usually distant views greet one but this day the clouds were dominant. However as we descended from Roborough Gate towards Wimbleball Lake we could turn off the wipers. By the time we crossed the bridge at the top of the lake a shaft of sun broke through and sparkled across the surface of the water whilst light wisps of mist kissed the shore line. Rounding the churchyard wall always raises our expectations for there is the George Inn. The bar door was hardly open before Tash, a beaming smile, greeted us with a price board for ‘COFFEE’. I said in my previous review that I wouldn’t mention coffee at the George again, sorry, but I must. The coffee machine had arrived the day before. Well done Tripadvisor the George! We had a wonderful starter of Baba Ganoush, new to the menu that day. It was exceptionally good with delicate flavour. Following on was chicken breast and pasta with tomato sauce, again great flavour though my wife found it a little too greasy. My Bengal curry was fantastic and a most generous serving. Our ‘Desert,’sic, was Chocolate Ganache with pistachio ice cream under crunched nuts. I had the steamed maple syrup pudding set in a delicious whisky sauce, a very delicate and light texture, just right to finish on after the curry! Of course we had our long awaited espressos from the new device, a delicious finale to our meal. Earlier in walkers had dropped in wanting a coffee. Now all on Exmoor should be heading to the George for their ‘hit’."
