The Rickards Arms - Carta

We visited here for a belated Christmas catch up yesterday and the Sunday lunch was to die for. Service was good and we all enjoyed greatly. Thank you, we can’t wait to visit again soon.

Comfortable enough, food is good as i recall but the choice of real ales is just about nil. Isn't that why most people go to pub, good beer? Surely that comes before an enjoyable evening with family /or friends? My brother i left after what was a poor pint.

Working locally, and not really knowing the area, this was my first port of call. It is a little worn and could do with a lick of paint, but for service and food i could not be faulted. The breakfast was filling and enjoyable. We will be calling back to replenish our bodily reserves. Ver carta

Loved my first visit to this pub for Sunday Lunch earlier this year but disappointing experience today. Fabulous choice of veg but the beef was slightly tough. My dessert was burnt and inedible. I chose crumble but couldn 't get the spoon through it. My mate had the same and hers was very dry but not anything as bad as mine. I told the waitress who said 'sorry '!

Visited recently with my wife, we intended to dine but food is only available in the afternoon at present. The pub has recently had a bit of a makeover and looks very nice. I understand from the landlord a restaurant will be opened in the coming months serving evening meals. Prices are ver reasonable, my only disappointment was in the lack of choice of a good cask ale but that is my personal choice.

We went to Rickards on a Thursday night, as we usually do. While enjoying our drinks, the bartender asked us to move (not very nicely) because we weren't participating in the quiz. Reluctantly, we moved to the designated area. However, after 10 minutes, he not only yelled at us, but also other customers to be quiet while we were just chatting. We felt insulted and frustrated. We had already moved from our preferred seating, and now we couldn't even talk. This bartender could use some lessons in customer service as his behavior was rude and inconsiderate towards local patrons. Mr. Otley should have a talk with him. Ver carta

On my second visit with my sister and two nephews, we all enjoyed corned beef pie, chips, and peas served with gravy. The children's menu had great options like sausage and mash or scampi with peas and chips. The portion sizes were generous and the food was amazing. During my third visit with my husband, we spent the evening at the pub. The bar had great offers and I chose fish and chips with peas, while my husband had surf and turf (scampi, prawns, and steak served with chips, salad, and mushrooms). I have visited this pub on multiple occasions over the years, both as a student and as a non-student. As soon as you enter, it exudes the atmosphere of a traditional British pub with a variety of ales available. The staff is friendly, and the owner is a pleasant individual who always took the time to chat with customers. There was also a friendly dog who enjoyed being petted. The pub has a nice beer garden, although be cautious of the steep stairs leading up to it - holding onto the handrails is recommended, especially after a few drinks. Earlier this year I met up with my cousin who was home from Spain. We both ordered the fish and chips, which were homemade and cooked perfectly. The portion sizes were great and our meals were very reasonably priced. We were met by a lovely member of staff who had a smile for everyone. Several weeks later I returned with my partner, son and both sets of parents. My parents both had the homemade chicken curry served with rice, chips, a poppadom and chutney.
