"My wife and I have frequented the Rose Cottage on numerous occasions and have never had anything bad to say. That was until today. Everything was fine on arrival and the starters that we ordered were delicious and my main was perfect. My wife had...ordered a Penang Curry with chicken. Now as my wife is Thai, she is well aware of what a Penang curry should look and taste like. What arrived out of the kitchen was neither a Penang Curry nor any form of curry that I have ever seen or tasted. What came out was a hodgepodge of winter vegetables in what I believe was more of a stew. I have never known parsnips to ever be put into a curry! On watching my wife try to eat this sorry effort of a Penang curry, I noticed that she was having to put on more and more salt. On asking her why she was putting on so much salt, she said why don’t you try it. On trying this so called ‘curry’ it would have put any diabetic into an instant coma. It was unbelievably sweet to the point of wondering if they’d decided to put in a whole kilo of sugar. I asked to see the supervisor, where the manager arrived. An extremely young lady came over and on discussing the ‘curry’ she and I both agreed that it was in no way a Penang curry, but more of a vegetable curry/stew. She said that she would speak to the chef. When the lady came out she asked how a Penang curry should be cooked. My wife started to answer, but understandably got irate as it’s not her job to tell a chef how to cook a dish. It’s the chefs job to look it up and cook correctly. My wife did express her unhappiness at that, however all we got back from this young lady was an inane ‘Bonnie Langford’ grin. In fact you could say that she was in no way contrite and it looked as if she really didn’t care about the situation. I did point out that they should remove the curry from their menu as it was a form of false advertising, but got the grin and a shoulder shrug and said that the owner was looking at changing the menu. The young lady asked if there was anything else, in a way that showed derision. I asked for the bill. On receipt of the bill, I noticed that the offending meal was still on the bill. Not wanting to cause any further problem or have to deal with the ‘grin’, I decided to pay the complete bill and leave. Please note, all we wanted to do was pass over friendly advice as to a fact. The fact that it wasn’t a Penang Curry and that the item should be removed from the menu. We weren’t expecting to be asked ‘how to cook the curry’ as if my wife had no clue to what she was saying or have no knowledge as to what a Penang curry was. Poor from the management team on how this situation was dealt with."

Wow what a wonderful place. Very warm and cosy dog friendly pub with an Alice In Wonderland theam. We realy enjoyed our meal here and even our little dog had his own menu. Definitely worth a visit if your in the area. Nice food and...good staff.

Came by the other day on and had the pangang curry and I have to say it was delicious. As a a chef, it is understanble that it will not be truly authentic, as traditional ingredients such as galangal, lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves are...not quite common in England, and are generally more expensive to order. After all its a English restaurant... in England.

patterned rose cottage for the first time after the drive past at many locations. beautiful that we made it! beautiful quirky ‘Alice in Wonderland’ decor, friendly staff really nice eating! we both had the burgers who apparently cooked at home and came with chips, coleslaw salat. in a Brioche-Back... my only complaining was that the chips were “McDonald” style quickly went cold. but overall we really enjoyed our meal would be back

we have visited this beautiful restaurant several times and a beautiful meal, served with a smile. we have always received a warm welcome by the host and the service was the second on none. unobtrusive, but attentive – just like a top quality place should be....Our recent visit was mothering sunday, and to be fair, they were very busy, and the dings were a bit slower, but also so that this did not distract from the excellent that this place provides.

A perfect piece of wonderland !What an EXCELLENT pub this is!!!so quirky and Love being in wonderland for lunch!!!if I could rate higher I would!!!!drinks perfect ,food perfect,service perfect ,we had a lovely chat with the owner very accommodating and friendly staff and atmosphere JUST...WONDERFUL !!!!!Massive fan of this pub and cannot wait to come back and look at everything again so many arty quirky things to see!!!Thankyou for our doggies dinners too they loved it!

very disappointed. booked as a mother's lunch and at the arrival there was a very limited menu without lunch. only to offer carvery we didn't want. was never told when booking that there was a limited menu and refused to return our deposit or allow us to change the day. we would never have booked if we were known as most of us, not like carvery. would not even allow us to buy drinks to get the deposit back. very bad administration. the first impressions were not very good. table very dirty and sticky. we have broken without order. will not come back. very poor.

we had a nice family dinner here after we stopped when we could explore the place. I have chosen myself here specifically because of their self-proclaimed gluten-free and allergenic options. I have to say I was impressed. the personal was not feared by our Coeliac...daughter who needed GF alternatives on the children's menu. they could have a gf pasta dish that even came with gf garlic brot! our own meals were timely and tasty and offer great portions for really reasonable prices. beautiful small place with quirky kitsch decoration. would be done again in a heartbeat.

We needed a dog friendly pub that we could walk to and The Rose Cottage did not disappoint! Our month old cocker spaniel puppy was greeted in without any fuss and the menu selection was brilliant. Exactly what we needed after a long mornings...walk. Pleasant staff and the decor I thought was quirky and fun. My wife had the beef burger and a bruschetta, I had the hunters chicken and halloumi fries with chilli sauce. All dishes were delicious and beautifully presented. Gutted I didn't take a picture of the food! They were happy for us to have it all together too as we were nervous about having our puppy calm while we ate for the first time. He did really well. What really makes this a star tho...
