"Visited with my husband and daughter for an early dinner. The waiting staff were warm, friendly and knowledgeable. Service was well timed and the food brilliant. I had kedgeree which was rich and tasty followed by the caramelised cream which was, no exaggeration, the best pudding I think I've ever had! My daughter (5) had a burger and chips which she demolished followed by chocolate ice cream again disappeared (she can be a dawdler over food) and my husband had sea trout followed by cheesecake both of which he loved. Having previously visited the Kitchin for my husbands 40th (4 years ago) we had wanted to come to scran and scallie for ages and it did not disappoint."

Professional staff producing and delivering super food. Lively room facing the street. The boss was in, good sign. Tom Kitchin is a busy man. My fish and chips were superb

A wonderful find for amazing, high quality pub food! The beef salad starter was so tasty, and the burger/ lamb amazing! The service was great, drinks well paired and can’t wait to go back!

Glorious fish n chips. The fish and the battered fried was just crunchy and fresh, with a touch of beer and lemon. Yum. The fries and peas also perfect. What else can I say? I recommend it.

Lovely little booth on the street with lovely food and cocktails! Only thing I could complain about is that my waffle was cold compared to the chicken on my older but I know this sometimes cannot be helped!

We had a wonderful meal at the Scran Scallie. Would 100% recommend for anyone visiting Edinburgh. The pies were amazing and one of the best we had ever eaten, as was the lamb. For dessert one of us had the Souffle which was again one of the best we had ever had. Will definitely be visiting again when we are back in Edinburgh.

Return visit as our family group are finally together after almost two years apart due to Covid. We all enjoyed an excellent meal with particular highlights being the scallops starter and the lamb shoulder. Relevant Covid precautions are in force but they are unobtrusive. Service was excellent and the restaurant is reasonably priced for Edinburgh. A nice evening was had by all.

We booked a table for dinner in advance and made our way to the restaurant via a short taxi ride. The restaurant is quite cute and the I loved the charm of the decor. The service was very professional and 'real '. I got the scallop appetizer and the fish pie main--yum. My drink was the Champagne-Germain; very nice option. Our dessert was a special I believe and was equally enjoyable. Overall, we loved the professional service and the charming homey atmosphere coupled with the tasty food options.

Never disappoints. The jewel in Tom Kitchin’s culinary crown. However, less gastro ‘pub’ and more brasserie as it looks like the normally cost very Scottish bar has been converted for additional dining due to Covid restrictions. So sadly this time and aperitif digestive was not an option. But one thing or should I say person that hasn’t changed is our waiter/maitre d’ Andrew. He was as fantastic as ever. He is the restaurant’s secret weapon along with its sauces which bring together every dish in a unique way.If you want a value for money Michelin level Scottish gastro experience then this is the spot for you.

"new kapitel has caught my attention after I was on top ten on trip advisor only months after the opening in the oktober last year. that and the fact that it is open for my early january birthday, made it the perfect place to celebrate to become a little older. I was with the man and his family. the man is quite used to my taste and good to the kind of kitchen that would appeal to me for a special occasion; his family not so much and I was filled with shame as his mother scornful went through the menu trying to find something she would enjoy. I've eaten with the family of the man, and I know they enjoy eating, so I think it's a failure of the menu that it is not accessible. the benming always blooming and garnish can appeal to some, but for others it is overcomplicated and it is necessary to find a balance between the two. we start with the starters and I go for venison sour wort pithvier. the venison was underheated and incredibly dry, to the happiness the sourded a little moisturizing and so saved the whole dish, but the aromen were quite not clear, except the garnitur of plastered mushrooms I thoroughly enjoyed. for the largest part we chose a fish dish for our main,- sea trout, smoked muddles, petersilien and coast herbs. where the starter fell, the main recording is getting back. the dish is rich and creamy, and each element adds the complexity of the taste as a whole, without disturbing. the concept is now an old one, and it would be deceptive if it had not worked, as it would essentially pay with this place. I enjoyed my meal in new chapter, although I do not agree with it is stellar status under the hierarchy of edinburgh eateries. it is top ten position is just a flash in the pan of hot popularity, and in time it will be plated in the upper half of the middle stage where it belongs. and that is where it belongs, the dishes can be plated with a michelin star in understood, and the venue and the supporting media has the clean lines and empty slate look of fine but eat the team has a long gone to go if that is their real aim. at the end, although it was a beautiful meal, and cheap (at the moment I would not be surprised to see their prices slowly rise) and the man’s mother found something they enjoyed and that is the most important."
