"That 's supposed to be the high point of my Mother 's Day weekend, but it was only a disappointment. The service doesn 't make you feel welcome, especially if you have a young kid or a toddler. You can clearly see the disapproval eyes around. If your restaurant is not appropriate for the little ones, it 's totally fine, but please inform on the website or on your booking confirmation (specifically because I requested a high chair). That would have avoided my BAD experience and given my table for someone else more appropriate. The food was good, only two chefs working and they 're pushing, nice options in the menu and the price is ok for what they serve. The starter scallops taste 5 the pancetta was crispy. The panache was well executed (no seasoning on the turned vegetables, but it 's fine), saffron sauce was light and smooth. Didn 't have any motivation to try the desserts."

"My family and I dined at the Union restaurant in December 2023 for the first time, marking our fourth visit overall after dining there three times previously on our own. While most of the food we have had at the restaurant has been excellent, there was one instance where my main course wasn't as good as it had been on other occasions. During this visit, my starter was good and my dessert was outstanding, but unfortunately, my main course was disappointing and overpriced. I'm not a fan of fish or seafood, and I don't always crave red meat, so I opted for the vegetarian option among the choices of lemon sole, steak, Somerset goat chops, and a vegetarian dish. My husband enjoyed the lemon sole he ordered, but my vegetarian meal was bland and unappetizing. I had to add salt to try to improve the taste, but it was mostly butterbeans and lacked flavor. For the price of £21, I expected a more satisfactory meal. I found it extremely disappointing and not worth the cost. While dining in Rye can be expensive, the quality of the food usually justifies the price. However, I would advise avoiding or being cautious when selecting this particular main course at the Union."

"We had lunch at The Fig in Rye and had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The lunch menu has good variety even though the menu is small. The pulled pork tacos were delicious as was the Goan prawn curry. We both enjoyed the warm banana cake dessert. The atmosphere was great and the staff helpful and attentive. Thank you!"

"I had a fantastic dining experience! As soon as I walked in and inquired about gluten-free options, the waitress was knowledgeable and immediately informed me that the fries were cooked in their own fryer. Plus, those fries were the best I've ever tasted! If you're in Rye and searching for gluten-free friendly options, I highly recommend Hoof. They even offered a gluten-free brownie for dessert!"

"I had a booking with a group of friends. We were warmly greeted at the door and asked if we had made a reservation. We were primptly asked if we would like anypoppadoms and dr8nks which these arrived swiftly. Being a Saturday night, we made sure we had reserved a table 8pm and secondly, as we were a big group. We arrived in plenty of time for our booking and were happy to wait for the table. The restaurant was full, which is lovely to see I the current economic climate. The fine detail of fresh flowers on the table and in the waiting area added a personal touch and ambience. The staff were very helpful with talking trouugh the menu and especially the lovely young lady that asked us what heat and spice level we were used to. She had a great knowledge of the menu and was able to talk us through the dish, and suggested that if we like the sound of a dish then they could ask the chef to cater for thier own level of spice as the dishes were made fresh to each individual order. The food was of. Excellebt quality and great portion sizes. As well as the presentation was outstanding , and going the extra mile was aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The dish wee had was a mixture of the lounge specials Dum Akhni, Dum Gosth, Lamb Chop Bhuna, and salmon tikka with a mixture of vegetables side dish and nans We all shared and loved the great food. Will definitely be visiting you again, soon rather than later. Thank you so much for a lovely, enjoyable evening."
