"The Swan Inn is a very special place. We had such a fantastic time this weekend, I don’t know where to begin! The pub itself has a warm and homely feel, we felt right at home from the moment we walked in. It’s jam packed with curiosities and interesting talking pieces as any English country pub should be! During our stay we had lunch and dinner, and even managed to squeeze in breakfast before we left, all the menus left us spoilt for choice and the food was absolutely delicious the best pub meal we’ve had in a long time I must make a special mention for the cheese pie which my partner and I can’t stop thinking about!!! Our room was comfortable and spotlessly clean, with everything you could need for total relaxation. A real home from home we had a great nights sleep. We will be sure to be back! Mel, Ian and their team are the perfect hosts, they made us feel welcome from the minute we arrived, we really can’t thank them enough!"

We had a lovely evening in the Swan, great ambience, food and friendly staff. The Christmas menu had loads of choice, we went for feather blade of beef and roasted Salmon both excellent choices. We'll be back soon!

An amazing pub that’s full of character and set in a beautiful location. We stayed in the hotel on a Saturday night. The food was delicious; we had dinner, as well as breakfast the next morning in the pub. From the moment we arrived, to the moment we left, we were treated like we were the only guests, nothing was too much! Both my partner and myself had a wonderful time and will 100% be returning! Thank you so much, you made our weekend very special indeed!

Beautiful old pub with lots of period features and a fantastic atmosphere and interesting decor. Ordered from the separate vegan menu (great) the vegan sausages with a good selection of vegetables and gravy. Disappointing.... bland and lacking in taste. Cherry pie with vegan ice cream was lovely very tasty. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Why no plant milks? Couldn't have a hot drink so had soft drinks. Overall, a mixed experience in gorgeous surroundings.

What a lovely spot to stop for lunch. We were shopping in Nantwich and wanted to have lunch out of town. We found The Swan via Google and what a find! The location of the pub is lovely (easy to find) and the indoor areas are warm, cosy and welcoming. Staff are attentive and friendly and provide a really relaxed atmosphere. The menu was good, plenty of options without being overwhelming and the food was excellent as was the service. We will definitely return and having discovered they offer B&B we may treat ourselves to an overnight stay. All in all highly recommend.

I work away from home on average three nights a week. The Swan Inn has now almost become my second home when I am working in the Newcastle Under Lyme area. I stumbled upon this little gem about five years ago after previously staying at the local chain hotels. The service levels are fantastic and the owners Ian and Mel and all the staff are very personable and are always willing to go that extra mile which when you spend a lot of time away from home makes a huge difference. The accommodation is perfect for my needs and I no doubt will be returning on a regular basis in 2024

Had an overnight stay for my husband's birthday. Bed was uncomfortable and shower leaked. Bells at the local church going off every half hour throughout the night which would have been nice to have been warned. Starter and main were burnt, couldn't believe the chef had allowed the burnt pie to even leave the kitchen, couldn't cut through the pastry. The nacho startes also burnt but we let that go. My turkey dinner had half a slice of meat on. A replacement was going to be at least 20 mins due to the staff concentrating on a larger party so we left without eating feeling sorry for the waitress who was left by the management to deal with the situation.

So we’ve been here before for lunch and it’s never something to rave about but we thought we would try the Sunday lunch as our friends had given us some vouchers for there. We both ordered the Pork Loin. On arrival it had a soggy Yorkshire pudding as it was soaked in watery gravy, there were plenty of vegetables on the plate, all of which were tasteless, roast potatoes that were insipid, stuffing ball that was like a fat ball you put out for the birds that wasn’t cooked in the middle, pork didn’t seem like it had been roasted on the premises as it was something you buy from the supermarket, all this served with so called gravy which was like dishwater. So glad we didn’t pay £16.95 but even s...

"Having successfully deposited our eldest in her new Uni digs and having enjoyed an evenings kip in an adjoining Manchester hotel we were in two minds where to breakfast. MrsC’s growing angst over the likely state of our home after allowing our youngest free rein for a garden party proved persuasive so we decided on an early exit an victuals en route. A scan of Happy Cow and Google combined allied to our southbound travel threw up Wild and Wild as a convenient stop off before we rejoined the M6. Pleased to see that it opened at 10;00am on a Sunday whilst registering our likely arrival at 10:15 we added the required SatNav waypoint and trained our behemoth on its new path. There was convenient free parking on the Sunday and we ambled on the pedestrianised section to Wild and Wild; sitting slightly incongruously next to a Costa. The place is light and well laid out and an enticing array of cakes and pastries greets you as you enter. The usual instructive board informed us “to please wait to be seated” which we did. The young lady who appeared to be both front of house, barista and server said she would be with us after serving her present customer; which was fine but, in truth, simply having the menus on the tables and allowing you to sit yourself at empty unreserved tables would seemed to have been the least intrusive and effective means of managing the flow? Anyway we were handed drinks/food menus and then informed that we could, in effect, do exactly that and seat ourselves. The breakfast/brunch menu was concise but convincing and for speed and efficiency MrsC and I settled on two “full English”, vegan of course, and two oat milk lattes. Queued again and gave the order and paid there and then. Though we haven’t been out too much recently the coffee prices seemed about right but the breakfast seemed a tad high. Understanding how inflation is hitting that might just be an impression but if we had stayed in Manchester and returned to the Lounge a similar menu would have been 30% less. Then it started going awry. The wait for the coffee seemed long; the wait for the food almost interminable (around 40-45 mins in truth) Halfway through that wait another server had magicked into operation and it switched from queuing to order to table service. She was professional enough to highlight to new incoming customers that drinks would be about 10 mins/food 30. Something not considered worthy of note to us earlier arrivals. The breakfast was ok. The vegan sausages appeared homemade with rice wrapper “skins” but they were woefully dry and overcooked. The whole vine of oven roasted cherry tomatoes were good as was the star of the show the Smokey “baked beans”. The toast was good quality bread but cut too thin to successfully soak up both beans and the sweet tomatoes. The other components of mixed greens and mushrooms and tofu scramble were under seasoned and a little bland. The potato rosti was a little dense but ok. Sadly the food was underwhelming and more so due to the long wait; ill fitting the vibe and the surroundings especially as the place wasn’t heaving at any time. Always feel awkward knocking eateries in these uncertain times but, in this case, expectations raised by the feel of the place allied to the prices charged, we’re not met by the quality of the food. Perhaps it’s better suited to an afternoon cake and a drink session? Disappointed."

"Wow!!! It has been many years since my last meal at the Brownlow. My late wife Dee and I used to dine here regularly. After her passing, I spent a lot of time working in Sub-Equatorial Africa, providing water to remote areas. Now that I am back in Congleton, some of my neighbors decided to take me out for a birthday lunch, and to my surprise, they chose the Brownlow. I was a bit apprehensive, as the restaurant held so many wonderful memories for me. However, from the moment I walked in, any doubts I had were quickly dispelled. The warm greeting and smile at the reception desk set the tone for the rest of our dining experience. We were promptly seated with menus in hand, and our pre-meal drinks (a perfectly chilled Pinot) arrived with efficiency. The professionalism displayed in serving our meals was commendable and something that is often lacking in other restaurants. The presentation of our dishes was impeccable, and the quality of the food was evident in the clean plates at the end of our meal. I have always believed that people eat with their eyes first, and even those who prioritize presentation would be pleased with the artistry on display here. I will have no problem recommending the Brownlow to my family and friends in the future. The whole team's friendly and welcoming demeanor made for a pleasant dining experience. Special thanks to Simon, the chef, for a job well done - you definitely deserve a raise! I am already looking forward to my next visit. Thank you for a memorable meal. Norman A Dean."
