"I came with my friends after a day spent wedding dress shopping and we had a really frustrating experience. My friend has a number of allergies and since we didn 't know what time we would be finished with the appointments, we chose this venue as she has 'dropped in ' before and they have been able to easily accommodate her. After being greeted and seated by a lovely, young waitress we were then approached by a much ruder member of staff who was immediately defensive and started to complain that she didn 't want a lawsuit on her hands as the business was privately owned and couldn 't afford it . We explained that our friend has eaten here before and the waitress said because of the commercial kitchen, they don 't have the facilities to offer us ANYTHING. The menu states that everything is freshly prepared and they are happy to cater for special requirements so this really shouldn 't have been an issue. We asked why the menu says this and she sharply said we are but you didn 't give us notice did you . We then explained that our friend has walked in before and been able to eat and her response was well its the same chef and he 's not said that to me . She was extremely rude and was more worried about a lawsuit than customer service. She even started talking about why McDonald 's cups say Hot because they were sued and said one person ruins it for the rest ....in other words she wasn 't going to let us eat because she didn 't want a lawsuit. We even suggested simple dishes that our friend could eat (jacket potato, chicken salad, pasta) and again, she blamed the commercial kitchen and said we can 't guarantee they 'll be no cross-contamination ....so if you have allergies don 't eat here! What she didn 't know, is that we have worked in the industry for a number of years and we know exactly how commercial kitchens work. This should not have been a problem. She also kept mentioning that they had a private party for 43 people that the chefs had to prioritise. Our custom was obviously not as important. She even shrugged and said well I close in 20 minutes anyway . If this were the case why were we seated and given menus in the first place? After this awful experience, we had to ask for the bill which she slapped on our table. Now, had this happened where we work, we would have at least offered the coffees as complimentary (as we only ordered them because we thought we would be eating). Not the point but it would have been a nice gesture after such a bad experience. Unfortunately we didn 't get the name of the waitress who was rude, unhelpful and extremely unprofessional. We all stayed very calm and were simply asking why nothing could be offered when theres plenty of simple dishes our friend could eat (the younger, nicer waitress actually offered us scones, so this waitress was just being unreasonable) but this waitress spoke to us quite aggressively to the point where other tables were looking. You don 't expect to be treated this way because one of your party has allergies. Appalling service. Will not be back. Would not recommend. Avoid if you have allergies."

We went for Sunday brunch with friends. I ordered toast- thinking it would be the standard 2 slice portion- it was in fact 1 slice- not so bad except it cost 3.00 !! Sorry but it’s over priced !!

Welcoming staff and good service. Wasn’t expecting much as had read a few negative reviews. However we all enjoyed our meals. Overpriced for some items like a soda and lime for £3.50. Would like to return for the scones.

Our meals were tasty but found seating uncomfortable and decor dreary but that's a personal thing.we're actually horrified to be charged £7 for two smallish soda and limes, £1 each for a shot of lime that you could hardly taste but also £2.50 for 200ml of soda for Gods sake where do they get it from!!! Also I was still eating when waitress started to clear my plate away when she realised she a ppologised but not really acceptable. Definately wouldn't return

Not the place it used to be. Gone dirty and the gents toilet was disgusting as it looked like it hadn't been properly and hygienically bathroom cleaned for weeks. Service was slow and staff run off their feet because there wasn't enough of them. The once glorious soughdough bread has gone and there are no tea cakes (at Easter!!! . Such a shame as I used to enjoy going here....but not anymore. For the prices you pay, it is poor value for money. The owners have run the place down and should be ashamed. It used to be great

I am not someone who enjoys writing negative reviews but today, I feel I must comment on my lunchtime experience. The sandwiches (served with chips) started from £15! My friend and I didn’t want anything too filling, so we asked if we could just have a simple sandwich and were told ‘no’. There was nothing else on the menu that was reasonably priced so we opted for a hot cross bun. We expected it to be served just with butter, but it came toasted and we hadn’t been given a choice. Two customers who won’t be going back! There are lots of people who would prefer a lighter lunch during the day and I fear that you will lose a lot of custom by not catering for us.

A totally different experience than a year ago Im afraid it seemed far too expensive for 2 Cappuccinos and 2 Goats cheese salads at £39! However, it was delicious and although the goats cheese was NOT a big round chunk with rind, grilled, (like Cheese Society in Lincoln)..it was a pleasant small ‘round’ of goats cheese x 3 with a fresh fig, a delicious impressive caramelised pear slice, chopped walnuts and dressed mixed leaves. The environment was vibrant and cosy at the same time and the staff were delightful. Clean toilets and worth going. So from my 1 star just over a year ago, I now give it 4/5 and that is simply down to the price. It should be £12.95 NOT £16.95

The place could do with a bit of a clean and TLC. It’s such a sweet building and has seen many changes of hands over the years. As for how it is now, it’s ridiculously overpriced to the point that I wonder how it’s still open. It was quiet and most were having drinks and maybe a scone. The prices are the reason why. On the lite bites menu a fish finger sandwich was £14!! A salad was £17!! This is Bawtry on a drizzly Monday not Leicester Square. We ordered two soups and shared a pot of tea which came to £20. The soups were really tasty to be fair but the pricing is crazy and the decor (footballers wives) not really to my taste but each to their own. Don’t think we will be returning.

Visited with friends following an outing of wedding dress shopping; arrived to be seated by a friendly waitress. The interior and decor is lovely very unique. We ordered hot drinks to start with and perused the menu. My friend (the bride) has several allergies and has visited before with no issues, which is why we decided to visit again- only to be told they could not offer her anything due to her allergens. It states on the menu: “All our dishes are freshly prepared and we are happy to cater to special requirements.” Wrong. This is certainly a case of Misrepresentation. When we spoke with the ‘manager’ or supervisor, she simply said that as a commercial kitchen contamination was a high prob...

"The welcome we received was pleasant, although not very personal, and our details were not checked, which was surprising considering how difficult it was to secure a reservation. The restaurant is not licensed, so guests are welcome to bring their own drinks. My husband and I brought two bottles of champagne, but we were not offered an ice bucket and were given standard wine glasses instead of flutes. The food was served promptly, starting with an amuse bouche of butternut squash veloute with a creamy accompaniment served in egg boxes. The chef explained the dish himself, and it was delicious. The second course, an aged rice dish reminiscent of a soupy risotto flavored with parmesan and espresso, was my least favorite. I found it poorly presented and the coffee flavor didn't come through well. The third course, a beautifully cooked lamb cutlet finished on a barbecue outside, was accompanied by flavorful lentils. However, the broccoli that came with it was plain and could have used some additional flavor. The dish was not explained to us. The fourth dish, which I initially thought was eel, turned out to be smoked eel and was served with beetroot. This was one of my favorite dishes of the night. We were served two desserts: a warm chocolate foam with orange sorbet and a deconstructed rhubarb custard with pink meringue pieces, both of which were delicious. The bill was not presented to us, so we followed the lead of other guests who left cash on the table as they left. My husband had a nice chat with the chef, and I joined in after a visit to the restroom. The chef was very knowledgeable and skilled with flavors. Overall, I was a bit disappointed by the lack of personality in presenting and explaining each dish. The experience felt somewhat impersonal and lacked interest. I believe guest interaction is crucial, so my tip would be for the restaurant to take the time to engage with guests, even if it means spending less time in the kitchen. I did not give a perfect score due to the presentation and slightly underwhelming flavors in some dishes. I believe that in fine dining, every element of the dish should be bursting with flavor. Despite this, we had an enjoyable evening and would return if we are able to secure a reservation."
